    Hello all,

please redirect me if I am posting in the wrong forum. I want/need to free up memory and speed up my full c and d drives. I know about removing unused programs, defrag etc but I know I have many duplicate files I dont need, music etc and not sure best place to start or is there an easier way to 'service' my beloved Vaio?

    All help appreciated.

    Blackie

Your best results would be if you formatted and start from scratch!

I know its a horrible proposition, but I find that anything else is only a half assed job.

thanks Blacknight, I think it will be worth it though. I do not have any of the original disks as I am sloppy like that so if you have any suggestions as to how to best go about it i will appreciate it. I have a 320gig hd which is empty and I could put back up in there. If you could direct me towards a link or abc process I would really appreciate it,

Another good bet is to add some extra ram if your machine can take it.

Well your going to need the XP install disk to install XP, no getting around that. If you have your own product key, you could try borrow a CD off someone, and use your key (I assume this would work).

Then follow the guides given above.

Does your vaio not have a recovery partition? Check control panel\adminstrative tools\computer management and then click on Disk managaement. If there is a small partition of about 7 gigs there that is a recovery partition. You can reinstall windows by accessing that partition on boot up using F10 (I think)
