The finish on these is sturdy, very satisfying to hold and use. Dixons - PC World have them on the shop floor, so if you want to try.. before you buy (elsewhere).

The only thing that annoys me is the Compaq 'Q' logo, slightly naff.

PATA wouldn't worry me in a netbook, to be honest.. odd choice mind.

Nice machines alright, so one out in Pcworld. As said though, it's a bit of a pain dealing with the slow 1.8" drive, but i suppose it's not too bad...

What type of disk is it now? SATA or PATA?

Pretty sure its 60gb 1.8" PATA drive.

I stand corrected: Data sheet says its a SATA drive, but not what form factor (ie.1.8",or 2.5")

If it's 2.5" then that is quite a good price for the netbook. Means you can upgrade the ram and hdd in the future.

1.6Ghz should last at least 5 years anyway.

This suggests it's 1.8" PATA as majiktripp orig said.

On page 10 under Mass storage devices there's two options listed:

Solid-state drive (SSD) based on multi-level cell
    (MLC) technology
    Configurations: 8-GB, 16-GB
Models equipped with a solid-state drive also
support the HP Mini Mobile Drive Bay

    Or

Supports all 4.57-cm (1.8-inch) parallel ATA
    (PATA) hard drives (optional)
    Configuration: 60-GB, 4200-rpm

Not a huge deal but like most I think I'd prefer a 2.5" as easier to upgrade in time.

Its a good spec for the money alright, only concern I wuld have would be the battery life - its only a 3 cell battery.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

A 3 cell battery and a 1.8" PATA drive would lean me more towards looking elsewhere than considering this a good bargain.

Seems like a bargain to me. Has anyone bought stuff from eBuyer before? I'm sure there's a thread somewhere about it, but I was just wondering what they are like for delivery/problems/customer care, etc.

This might be worth reading through. basquille seems to have had a fair bit of trouble with a monitor recently.

I'm just about to shell out for this (hopefully I don't have any probs like Basquille) but was just wondering if anyone received stuff from them before and got hit for customs duty? Thanks.

Ordered once about 3 weeks ago, no problems at all.
    Warehouse Locations
EBuyer operates a warehouse in Howden, East Yorkshire, UK. In addition, we have a full network of suppliers across the country that can drop ship items to our customers.

    from this page: http://static.ebuyer.com/customer/help/index.html?action=c2hpcHBpbmdfbWV0aG9kcw==

So duty shouldnt be an issue afaik.

    [Off Topic]

My problem was probably just a once-off but a friend of my girlfriend is currently having a nightmare with them too.

Ordered a laptop and was waiting a month for it.. and they told him they were unable to find his address and it ended up somewhere in the UK.

He asked for a refund.. and they refused to refund him the delivery costs and said he'd get free delivery if he ordered with them again. He got the delivery cost back eventually but to be honest.. they're probably like Pixmania.. they're fine UNTIL you need to "avail" of their customer service.

Just to let you know (in case anyone else was considering buying from this site) that I ordered my netbook on Monday and received it today (Friday) by courier. Grand job.
Mind you, as Basquille says, if I need to contact their customer service about any other problem I might not find it so easy. Nevertheless, I can only judge them on my dealings with them so far (delivery) and that was spot on.... just one day late:o! By the way, it's a nifty little machine... so far so good.

    Unboxing video for anyone interested:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9mhLaEJLTI

Also a point to note is that the system does not have any external VGA out port for hooking up to external monitor etc. Also note the layout of the left and right mouse buttons - these are to left and right of the touchpad. This design is used on some other netbooks but imho is not very easy to use.

Im thinking about getting one of these for my fiance...

    internet.. MS word and pictures....

    Seems fine for that?

They're grand for running around and being able to check your email/internet without the hassle of lugging a full-sized laptop with you. They're not the sort of thing you'd spend any great time working on though - the little screen and the cut down keyboard become quite cramping after a while.

    thats a great deal, thanks
