Been offered a New, unregistered Vectra (1.6) for €18000. Does this represent a good deal?

I know the Insignia has replaced it but is the Vectra a bad car? Opinions please.

    Thanks in advance

If your planning on driving it into the ground yes, if your planning on selling it in a couple of years no. Also the diesel engine is the way to go on the Vectra, the 1.6 petrol is a dog.

An '09 Vectra? Yikes. Nothing wrong with the car, but €18k will go a lot further than a Vectra. Do you really need an '09?

If you don't plan on ever selling the car then it might be an attractive offer given it is a brand new car with a full manufacturer's warranty. That's the only advantage of buying it I can see to be honest.

So the real question is are you willing to own a 1.6 Vectra for a very long time for the sake of having a brand new car?

Vectra is a reasonable car, but the 1.6 does struggle a lot carrying that much weight....
Ideally the 1.9CDTI, if possible the 150hp unit is nice.....
it has depreciation of a falling stone.....
so be prepared to loose a lot.....

as mentioned, if a 09 plate is not an issue you can get a lot of car for€18k

Tell them you want a 1.9CDTI for the same money, then it is a great deal if you are going to hang on to it for a while. I would avoid the 1.6.

Slow, unsellable and brutal fuel economy combined with dated looks. I wouldn't. Unless you like the car, then to hell with anyone else get what makes you happy !

I actually think the Vectra in hatchback form in a decent spec is a very handsome car, classic clean lines. The interior is dated for sure.

The estate is not that bad either....especially SRi spec

if it wasn't the 1.6 it would be good value but as others said, only if you plan to live with it for a good few years.

Have the CDTi (150) SRi myself and if I could get a 09 one of them for 18k I'd snap it up!

The 1.6 is not fit for purpose in a car this size. Had one as a courtesy car a while back and it was frightening to try and overtake in.
