    Hi,

I started a level 7 course in 2006 and didnt finish for personal reasons. Didnt even get the chance to do Xmas exams. This year i've been accepted into a different level 8 course...

My question is will I still be able to claim free fees or will I have to pay the tuition fees myself for 1st year? I'm now applying as a mature student where as before I was a standard applicant who applied on the points system.

    Thanks for reading.

I spoke with the head of department when I left to tell him but I never had to fill out anything saying I was leaving.
I went to the college yesterday to see what will happen and they said I was still on the registry or something so I might have to pay fees. Im hoping because Im changing levels I qualify for free fees. Is it at the colleges discretion?

By mature do you mean 23 years old (on January 1 of the year you enter your course). If yes. while you may be a mature student, tuition fees will only be waived if you are returning to college after taking a 5 year break from third level education. Since you say you attended in 2006, you don't meet this criteria. You must check with whatever college you want to attend. If you are not 23 years old, some colleges don't charge you tuition fees if you are moving from a level 7 to a level 8 course. Most do though. Again check with the relevant colleges. Either way, If they do charge you for previous attendance in another course it depends on when you officially withdrew from your course (and actually signed an exit form). If it was before October 31st, then you aren't liable for fees, if it was before January 31st, you are liable for half fees and if it was anytime after January 31st, you are liable for full tuition fees. Hope this helps!
