    im buying a car, what documents should i expect to receive with the car?

    in term of owning it and taxing it etc?

    The log book should be all you need but try make sure the service book and owners manual are included. They'll just come in handy.

    you need the ownership papers, which, depending on when the last change of ownership was done could be a
    Vehicle Licensing Certificate (before 31 May 2004)

    or the new type registration cert (after 31 may 2004) :

    This is sent away to Dept of Environment in Shannon and comes back in your name.


    the older type blue registration cert is of no use to anyone, under no circumstances accept just this.

    That's all you need really, NCT certs, service history, receipts are nice but not essential.

    You will not be handed the log book/reg cert when you take delivery of the car. The seller should send this off to Shannon, and it would be a good idea for you to bring a stamped addressed envelope with you and go with the seller to see it posted (after you have entered your details on it and the seller has signed and dated it).
