That's the 'Wicklow Gap' isn't it? I was on it over the weekend, great drive, must go back!

Drive from Bunmahon in Waterford to Tramore along the copper coast... One of the most beautiful drives for scenery I know... However for road quality its very poor

there's a stretch of the N65 from Kilimor to Portumna that was widened recently, it's up and down and bendy, but you can take great racing lines through the hard shoulder for about 5km good craic.

There's a road up a mountain in Achill and the road out to Keem there too.

Embankment to Brittas to Ballinascorney to Oldbawn. Not long but late at night on a commited (read fast :D) run it can be very thrilling. Sweeping esses into long straights and fast tight up-hill into severe plunge and bum cheek clenching brake points. Great drive plus fantastic views.

I love that section and have been known to go into a torrent of swearing if I meet a tractor or truck just before it.

I recommend doing a lap of Lough Corrib starting from Galway, Headford, Cross, Cong, Cornamona, Maam Bridge, Maam Cross, Oughterard, Moycullen and back to Galway. About 75 miles or thereabouts. The Cornamona->Maam Bridge and Maam Bridge->Cross sections are awesome.

Other notable drives from the world of rallying: Molls Gap, Healy Pass and Cods Head in Killarney, the Ring stage from West Cork and Knockalla from Donegal.

Louth coastly drive Drogheda to Carlingford on a nice sunny day, stop off in Fitzpatricks (outside Carlingford) for some nice food and then drive home.

    Yep, it's good.
Widened recently? They've been working on that road since 2003
    What's taking so long?

I vote Corkscrew Hill in East Clare.

Was on the Sally Gap once in Wicklow once on a motorcycle, magnificent!

Not a patch on the healy pass & no visibility between corners either so not safe for hard driving.

    +1 on the Healy Pass
Also the Sligo to Eniskillen road is great to drive if traffic is light (don't go at common shopping times!) or the road between Glengariff and Killarney is good too with tunnels through the rocks and amazing scenery

I have the great pleasure of getting paid to drive any and all of the above routes, and then some! OK, it's usually in a 53 seater coach, but thats a driving experience all to itself. Great visibility, seeing ahead around bends is a great help and I'm happy to say that I DO pull over whenever possible to let traffic pass. Glengarrif to Killarney for sure, Caha Pass, Sally Gap, Molls Gap to Killarney, Antrim Coast from Carrickfergus up past Giants Causeway, Slea Head........................so many.

Leave Waterford heading out the Cork road.
You'll reach a signpost on the main road that says 'Bunmahon' to your left after fifteen-twenty minutes.
    Go there. Head towards Tramore.

I have to do promotion work in Kill/Bunmahon/Kilmacthomas/Tramore once every few weeks and I enjoy it specifically because I get to drive this road.

Not fast in the slightest and the road is ****e, but it is absolutely fantastic scenery.

In terms of driving pleasure, one I enjoy is heading out of Bunclody in Wexford. There's a truck stop about halfway between Bunclody & Enniscorthy. If you take the right turn at that truck stop and head for Kilkenny on those back-roads, you'll have plenty of fun!

Apart from the obvious "any road so long as I'm driving a hire car" line; I'd agree with the Westport/Louisburgh - Leenane road. Also quite like the 'back' road from Scariff to connect wth main Limerick/Galway road, just south of Gort. Over the hill, Killenana way. Helps to be on it literally first thing or last thing, so avoiding usual farm traffic.

The coast road out of Galway through Spiddal then around to Maams Cross, left there up to Clifden. Nice driving road and great scenery.

The healy pass at about 6am when the sun is just coming up is legendary stuff, but for sheer insanity, you can't beat Priest Leap down west. Anyone who's been on the road will agree, it's a rollercoaster at the side of a mountain, at some points you're going up crests and the rise and drop is so severe, you can't see the road underneath you, or where it's going.

Forgot about that. It's some drive, especially from north to south for the views. You'll enjoy the views as you'll be going VERY slowly....
