The guy is the very definition of an iron man (except for the comic book version).

I saw that too. Serious respect. It sounded like a very bad accident and he seemed to be in a lot of pain in the days afterwards. I hope it goes well for him.

Has he lost his mind?, Can he see or is he blind
Can he walk at all? Or if he moves will he fall?
Is he live or dead? I see thoughts within his head.
We'll just pass him there. Why should we even care?

He was turned to steel in the great magnetic field!
When he traveled time for the future of Mankind.
Nobody wants him He just stares at the world.
Planning his vengeance that he will soon unfurl.
Now the time is here for ironman to spread fear.
Vengeance from the grave kills the people he once saved
Nobody wants him they just turn their heads.

Nobody helps him now he has his revenge.

Heavy boots of lead fills his victims full of dread.
running as fast as they can Ironman lives again!!!

Much respect. Bravo sir. Have a great Ironman.

I fear if Tunney didn't exist that we would have to invent him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭lukester

Getting run over by a bus and still going off to do the Ironman raises the hardness bar just a tad.

    Respect.

Good luck to Tunney, that will be a very difficult Iron Man (his first too, I think?)

I hope he holds up during the race -- there 6 months serious preparation gone into it.... horrible crash I'm glad he wasn't injured more seriously.

Just get the right job and dedication. I worked fulltime during the run up for TOI... I regularly did 15+ hours training and had4 weeks around 25 hours... Its helps to break it down to days and as tunneys blog says find a rhythm.

1 Hour in the morning and evening each weeke day isn't that much especially if you use it as a commute as well... and thats 10 hours per week. Get extra time off work as well :) I used to finish at 1pm Wednesday ....

    Nothing is impossible :D

Well said Scott. I find that even doing nothing I don't have enough hours in the day. It's all about how you approach it. If you make the time, cut out crap like TV and procrastinating (my 2 favourites at the minute), you can do a lot.

Life is rhythm....... (lets see if Adidas steal that one)

I wonder does anyone actually ever say... Right, now I'll procrastinate.

Nope. They usually just say 'must have a look on Boards to see what's up'.

Way to go tunney. Hope it all goes well for him. Sounds like the medics have told him he can't do any more damage. He must be unbelievably tough mentally. KUDOS!

Not looking good unfortunately...no bike split past 50k.

    Top man Tunny.

Speaking of IM, the IM France was on a week ago. Did the bike stage wheile the race was in progress. Was surprised at the pace. Apart from the top 10 they were not exactly fast on the bike, and going downhill, triathletes are hilarious. They should really go with a road bike + clip ons for those mountaineous IMs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 279 ✭✭stevie_b

the little paddle before the cycle and the jog afterwards would probably play some part in the pace they ride

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,454 ✭✭✭mloc123

Yes, I think the 26.2 mile run after may have something to do with them 'pacing' so slowly on the cycle. ;)

as has been said by mloc123, when you've got to run a marathon, which is tough enough on its own your not going to hammerfest a 180km cycle before it

Although I do agree most amatuer triathletes would be much better of with a road bike with clip on's for IM's such as IM Nice

Still no split bike time after 50km.

It's possible that he dropped out. If this is true, at least he did a 3.8 km swim and a 50km cycle.

A 3.8km swim (152 lengths of my pool) would probably kill me.

I find normal triathlons difficult, but an ironman is just sheer madness!!

    bummer ... :(

just spotted this on the triathlon forum

I think Tunney was involved in an incident in T1 and ended up back in hospital....shame if it turns out that this is the case.

Unfortunately true. Austrian hospitals are excellent.

Some oaf poughed into me in T1, and pushed me over. Landed on a wheel. There is a reason they are called bladed spokes........... Sliced my kneecap to the bone. Blood everywhere. Absolutely manky wound. Yucky. Was taken to medical tent. Doctors told me my race was over. I told them "I've just swam 3.8km with a fractured collar bone, its not f*&king over". He sowed my knee up and made me promise to go to the hospital after the race. Got out of medical tent 2 hours into the race. Tried my best on the bike. But knew after a few km I was gone. Cried my eyes out until I finally had to pack it at 56km. There is only so much one legged cycled you can do. Stopped and got an ambulance to hospital. Spent most of Sunday there but got to watch Liam and Rich finish. Was back there this morning. On all manner of drugs, (get to inject mself with Hebron daily now), and in terrible pain again. Totally devastated that everything I worked for to get here, to break a collar bone and work to get back from it but to have some ignorant pr!ck end my race and my IM dream is crushing.

sorry to hear about that tunney and wish you a speedy recovery

Wow, can't believe he intended to continue on after the accident at the first transition.

He must be really hardcore :)
