Tesco

This lot must be having a right laugh at the Irish.

SO they say they are going to start using UK suppliers so that they can drop costs and pass the savings onto the customer.

They run a big propaganda campaign listing all the lower prices.

Now a month later all the prices have risen again, lots of Irish suppliers are out of work and Tesco make even bigger profits.

:pac: They must take us for jokers.

    Wrong forum... .

people keep going on about this... however isnt it the case that they have not changed any of their Irish Suppliers, they have simply moved their base of operations for sourcing INTERNATIONAL products from here to somewhere else to cut out the middle man?

Their shops are disgusting as well, always dirty and the staff are horrible

The Euro is stronger since they introduced the price changes. Some prices actually reduced too.

I sent a text into Pat Kenny on the day this was announced, I explaining that this would happen.

He had a load of "independent" people on explaining how this was a great move for the Irish consumer.

And another thing, it was to only be in border stores. Now guess what this change is being "rolled out" across the country.

F'uck we are clowns to put up with this.

Responded to customer demands, this was just the Tesco shops competing with cross border shops, not every Tesco in the country.
Consumers were heading north to buy UK products anyway.
By responding Tesco saved hundreds of Irish jopbs in their stores.
People are flocking there so their decision has been proved right, profits are up, they don't get that way without sales.
Irish products are generally expensive/over priced, why?
eg How can bread made in NI be cheaper to bake than bread made here?

    Meh... still don't care.
This will simply mean I may be inclined to buy more products here than when I go to the North to shop seeing that we may finally be seeing some value for money

As bladespin mentioned they simply responded to consumer demands

"Tesco claims an additional 25,000 customers have been visiting its Border stores each week since prices were cut there in early May."

and no cianl1 - I don't work for Tesco :) I don't even shop there much... I shop where i can get the best price/value for my cash

    Simply this, simply that.

Since when did Tesco respond to consumer "demands"?

Maybe you need to do a bit of research on the company.

errr - since they slashed their prices?
I dont need to do any research on the company - I just need to enter one of their stores -see stuff cheaper than one of their rivals - and buy it..
Thats all the research I need.

Couldnt give a monkeys about it. Tescos are importing food into the country and its still cheaper than the food produced in the country.

Whos faults that? The person who want cheap food our the people selling it?

 But they have not slashed their prices, did you miss that bit. Read the opening post.

    Wow deep thinker.

I bet you believe in the merits of globalisation.

I think you need to get with the program. People are suffering from job losses, wage cuts, higher taxes etc.
If they can get cheaper products elsewhere then they will.
If you can afford to keep buying in the most expensive shops they go ahead - however the majority of us will not. it is attitudes like that and willy nilly spending that helped get us into this mess in the first place.

Anyway I would imagine this thread will be locked soon seeing that its in the wrong forum and has been done to death in the correct one?

Wow, major deja vu going on here.

Anyone who doesn't jump on the "Tesco eats babies/swans" bandwagon works for them - Tick
Everyone is a thick bar the OP - Tick
Very few people actually believe or know all the facts about what has happened - Tick

Can this thread be now closed and people just reread the several hundred other threads and pretend it's all new again ?

KatieMalone, seriously, were you in a coma until today ? Even if you read yesterdays papers your first point on this page, page 3, will obviously become incorrect to you. It was said from the very begining that this was to be rolled out nationwide if it went well elsewhere. But of course see point 2 above, everyone bar you is wrong/liar.

They always respond to my demands. If I don't see something in particular in their stores, I let them know, in a charming manner, that I'll be shopping elsewhere if they don't get the item on the shelves.

Facts are facts, people are buying the products regardless of pathetic soapboxers.

If you don't like it then do something about it instead of jumping on the boards and whinging, reduce the Irish prices and you'll be grand, it's so simple even someoen who reads primary school economics can figure it out.

I shop in Tesco and my shopping is still a lot cheaper than it was pre December avg €80 now compared to avg €130 then - their prices are still low.

I don't shop in Tescos, partly because it's a 20 minute drive away and partly because I've decided to support the local lads. I buy my meat daily in the local butchers and I'm going to start using the local fruit and veg man. The only problem with the local fruit and veg guy is he gives you to much stuff he keeps throwing in extra bits which is great but they all end up rotting in my press before I get a chance to eat them.
