    and im torn.

Indie pendance has a better lineup and looks better on paper, but Im put off by the way theres no camping. I dont fancy going to bed after the gig or back to a b&b or something, do anyone whos been before know what goes on down there after the music finishes?? Like, i dont just want to go to a series of gigs, I want to go to a FESTIVAL..

Castlepalooza I loved the last time I went, the venue is brilliant and its just a good weekend, but the price is higher now and whats all this crap about not bringing in booze? I dont know..

Which to pick? Why do promoters clash with each other anyway, is it on purpose? I would likely have gone to both but now they are making me choose. Brutal..

Oh **** I just looked at the site from my own link again.. camping facilities for Indiependance announced now, wasnt on there before.

This changes things to put Indie in the lead. Although its still just local campsites, rather than actual festival camping for the event. I think?

I haven't been to either before, but I'm going to Indiependance this year.
The line-up is looking better and better by the day!
Fight Like Apes have been added, yippppeee! :)

I reckon the campsites will be good craic too. Plus...they'll have better facilities than your average festival campsite.

Seriously though, the line-up is brilliant!

    - Fight Like Apes
    - Ham Sandwich
    - Ocean Colour Scene
    - Messiah J & The Expert
    - Super Furry Animals
    - Director
    - The Blizzards
    - Cowboy X
    - Darkroom Notes

    ....plus heaps more...all for €59! Bargain! :)

I got an email from cyprus avenue and they have weekend tickets for €39 for this week only.

Its the first time Indiependance has been charged for since its most recent reincarnation. In previous lives it feature Boyzone, coolio and Eamon amongst others. Up until now it was in mitchelstown square, one big stage and people donated into buckets. Great atmostshpere around the square every year, music a lot of the time was secondary for a lot of people.

I like the idea of the new venue, its 5 mins walk from town centre and the line up has me excited. A lot of great bands and a lot of ones Ive never seen live.

The camping is about 10 mins drive from venue but by late night you surely wont mind the trip and TO who is running the site is a legendary figure in the area. There are also a good few B&Bs within 5 mins walking distance of the site (away from the town)

I do think the weather will play a big part in the number of locals attending but I really hope it is a success for them!

For some reason I just dont like the sound of Castlepoloza, too much comfort and a very small crowd, only 2500 tickets I heard?

    Too much comfort?

It's a small venue so 2500 is about as much it it takes.

I have never been to it but its a festival and for me it just sounds a bit ponsey... like the special camping area: Champagne and strawberries on arrival, chocolates, paper and breakfast on sunday morning... Sorry if Im offending you!

    Just not for me

No, not offended at all....just no harm in a bit of comfort. I think we take **** standards at festivals for granted over here. Just back from Sonar and a world of a difference over there! (not saying that the standards will be **** down in Cork btw)

Castlepalooza is not all that highbrow.

I just saw this on the site. I'm know the area and this camping is right on site, no need to get transfers like the only camping offered before! No extra charge for camping wither which is cool:

    Camping Facilities Announced

Its been a while coming to fruition but the INDIEPENDENCE Music & Arts Festival has finally been given the green light for an official festival campsite at O'Connell Park, Mitchelstown. This means that festival goers heading along to see headliners Ocean Colour Scene and The Super Furry Animals along with top Irish acts, The Blizzards, Mundy, Fight Like Apes, The Frank & Walters, Director, Delorentos, Fish Go Deep, Wallis Bird, The Chapters and over 50 more top acts and DJ's will now be able to stay on site for the weekend and enjoy the full festival experience!

But here's the best bit, festival organisers in these recessionary times have decided not to charge any extra for the campsite! Anybody with a €59 weekend ticket purchased from ticketmaster even where these tickets state "weekend non-camping" will be given access to the campsite. The site is adjacent to the festival arena and car parking facilities are less than 5 minutes walk away.

The Festival which is sponsored by Bavaria, offers three stages with 10 hours of music on site each day. On top of that, the entire town of Mitchelstown is turned into a festival centre with 2am extensions in all bars and live music and DJ's on offer into the early hours.

All €59 weekend tickets purchased from Ticketmaster will allow access to the campsite. Any festival goers who bought €39 day or special offer early bird tickets will be able to access the campsite by paying a supplement on arrival at the site.

The site will open at 6pm on Friday July 31st and close at 6pm on Monday August 3rd
