    Hi All

Apolgies of this is in the wrong area (mods please re direct me if necessary) but I'm looking to purchase a decent road bike for approx €150- 200 and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good shop to go to. Not looking for anything too fancy just a decent bike for trekking around on and don't want to be fleeced in these hard times

    Thanks

I don't want to sound bad but you won't find anything (new) that's decent in your price range.

You could try www.adverts.ie www.gumtree.ie or the buy and sell.

Humphries Cycles in Finglas sell second hand bikes also.

One piece of advice avoid the mountain bikes in Halfords or Smyths that are in you're price range. They're not worth the hassle

    :D:D:D

Dude You should shop around before you ask here;), bring a doctor too because 150 wouldnt get you a decent pair of wheels for a road bike.

If you go up to 300-350 it will be cheaper in the long run and you wont get fleeced "in these hard times" with constant bike failures.

generally sub e300 bikes are crap.

Try the shop in Fairview or the shop in Dongamede shoping centre... haven't been to either but I'd trust them before the other options. Richies in swords might be worth a shout.... you'll probably be looking second hand at that price.

City Cycles on Fairview/Malahide Rd junction is pretty decently priced, as is Little Sport on Fairview (by the pedestrian bridge). Check both of those out.

If you could bring your price up to 300 or so you'd be getting a lot more bike for your money, anything new at 150 or so will be pretty crap.

    Northside of where? ;)

If it's Dublin (and it always is on boards!) then I recommend Little Sport in Fairview

I wouldn't give up hope so easily!:) I picked up my old-school steel racer in City Cycles Fairview for €250, complete with full mud-guards. It was a real cruiser/A to B bike and served me well. Having said that, some repair jobs were forced on me after a few months riding (forks snapped, rear wheel buckled, drop bars snapped, bottom bracket replaced)

Hmmm maybe my case isn't so convincing after all...
