If one was to be qualified as a teacher with an honours degree and an honours hdip, how much would they earn after tax? approximately.

    Thank you.

Pre-tax figures are in this sticky.

What you come out with in the end is really dependent on your own situation.

    okay

would it be fair to take away 20% off that on the whole and round down a bit to get the jist?

You can't really generalise. It depends on your circumstances tax-wise.
If you know your tax credits, then using those figures you can work out what you'd get. Allow for the pension levy, the health levy, widows and orphans, etc.

Most people would not be starting on a full rate, but on a proportion, depending on how many hours they get in their contract, unless they're just on the part-time rate.

I just asked a colleague of mine, recently qualified, with an Honours degree and Dip. and on almost full hours - he gets 1800 into his hand per month.

so 1500-1900 would be a fairly accurate range

    thank you very much

For close to full hours, yes, but most of our newer teachers are not close to full hours.

Most new teachers are on 12 or 14 hours in our place so you're looking at significantly less than that.
