Scafolding regulations/safety etc

Whats the deal with erecting scaffolding? Can it only be done by certified people? Surely a lot of common sense will dictate how safe it will be?

Reason I'm asking is dodgy scaffolding I noticed near where i live in Drumcondra.

Recently I noticed they had errected scafolding to the front of a house, as you do, and they then proceeded to tie it back to a old iron fence to the side of the house. I don't know who the bright spark was that taught that up but surely them old fences wont stop a scaffolding setup from falling over

And then tue I went by there again and someone was putting up scaffolding to the back of the house. There's a 2 storye extension to the back.
He had part of it erected allong the rear facade, part of it on a roof, with some timbers under the pipes. And he has to planks sitting on the gutter WFT:confused::confused: Judging by how the monkey was climbing down from the top (you know they way kids "play" on scaffolding) safety must not be one of their greatest concerns!

That's what there for, from what you describe there can't be a ticket for it.

Sounds dodgy alright, Scaffolding is supposed to be erected by a CSCS Certified Individual, signed off on every 7 days, after bad weather etc., couldnt imagine there has been any signing off done on that though, from the sound of it...fairly hefty fines too I think, for such a setup

I remember something like that alright from college.

Was nearly tempted to ask him what he was at when I see it. I haven't been around there since, not sure if its still up. The scaffolding around the front wasn't up for long.

Will have to find out if it's still up or if they done anything different since i seen it before calling.

Looked dodgy to say the least.
