A Toilet Thread But Not What You Think...

I was up at a show in the O2 yesterday and beforehand dropped into Burgerking in O'Connell St.
I was shocked to see the state of the toilets on such a well known national street. Besides the state of them, the smell was absolutely horrendous.
    It was stomach churning.
The wife said the ladies were the same.
Needless to say we used facilities elsewhere.
Most places usually check their toilets every hour or so... They clearly didn't yesterday!

Have you ever come across such bad , REAL BAD cases from businesses that you would have definitely expected better from?

I worked in Burger King in Tallaght for a while. One of the worst things I saw in the toilets there was junkie blood all over the walls after a junkie spiked a vein. Fun times

Did they have very small doors? I hate those toilets, I go into them before gigs in the Ambassador because they don't make you buy anything. Those are the ones everyone goes to to inject heroin, or so the rumour goes anyway.

They have (in their defence) in Burgerking now started to install the blue florescence lights to try and stop junkies shooting up in them.

Burgerking and McD's jaxx on O'Connell st. are where all the junkies go to take their Heroin dumps. AVOID.

Seems to be primarily a Burger King problem!

Wasn't there florescent lights in the Supermac's on O'Connell street too. Those toilets are too great from my experience.

I have yet to see a toilet in a fast food restaurant in Dublin, which was of a usable condition.

I don't think a central location makes a difference, seriously, what the sh*t do staff care?

    Excuse the pun.

Draw a circle round the spot with a pen beforehand?

tbh I've used those jacks many a time and haven't encountered any problems in terms of the clientelle. Looking at the amount of druggies around town i'd say only a tiny percentage of them actually use these jacks in such a manner.
It's probably too much of a cliche for them to be comfortable doing it. Too easy to get caught. Other places they'd get away with it easier.

True, the second thought that came to my mind however (after the first thought of throwing up) was that of "what impression are we giving tourists as well as our own as they visit a famous national street?"

I've seen bad toilets all over the country as this thread applies to, not just Dublin.
That said, yesterdays toilets was THEE worst I've ever seen so far in my extensive life. Utterly disgusting beyond belief.
The smell is still stuck in my memory.

Considering that the street in question will be like a toilet anyway at 3am on the weekend with the amount of piss and vomit from the drunks I don't think the tourists need to check the BK bathrooms to get their impression

Well the security in these places are quick enough to tell ya to leave when its their going home time on a saturday night, is it not their job to monitor who uses their toilets? Do ur poxy job.

Bring in system they have in europe were ya pay to use clean toliets, 20cent in most train centre stations in germany for a stand up and 1euro for a sit down, bit more pricey but ya get all added extra's of fluffy towels and lady standin at door with soap for hands, nice!!!!:)

Any pizza hut in the West end in London has been awful...and actually quite a few more upmarket restaurants that I'd expect more of.

Tried the Maccy D's on O'Connell street to use the toilet.. they had some big ol' fella standing in front.. I was too scared to walk past :P

Then went in to BK.. same, toilets stank.

Ended up goin to some in a fancy hotel down the road.... Jesus, I'm like Goldielocks.

Anyway, yeah... toilets smell - usually because of their content.

Wasn't just the smell, even though it was REALLY bad. It was the absolute state of the place.
Now in many years than I care to remember, I've used a lot of toilets but these were in the worst category - ever!
Though it might just be the gents but no, wife said hers was in the exact enough same state.

They let you see the toilets and if they are that bad, I can only imagine what the kitchen is like...

Worst toilet i've ever had to use was in a pub in a village in the South of France, a small corner was sectiones off with some recycled wooden crates, and inside, the toilet was a hole in the ground.
    It was pretty clean surprisingly,

Oh ok, sorry. I must say, I've never been in a toilet with any noticable signs of druguse (not that I'm particularly streetwise :P) is that more of a Dublin thing?

Worst toilet I ever used was one in McDonalds without a toilet seat... I shouldn't have but I did :o

Yes I have come across such foul smelling toilets on O'Connell Street. It was a fast food place and they had these stainless steel toilet bowls I could see from the door as I couldn't go in as the smell was disgusting.

What bothers me is the fact that these fast food restaurants, are places where food is prepared, cooked and served to customers and hygiene is everything, and if the toilets are in a bit of a state than what does it say about the hygiene standards of the restaurant?

I think the Abrakebabras in town are really bad, I was at the one in Tallaght yesterday, Went to use the toilet, It had a sign saying 'Customers Only, Ask At Tills'

I turn around and the Chinese fella nods and smiles, Then presses a button under the counter which opens the remote lock on the door, I was impressed with the cleanliness of the toilets, Its a really good idea.

Aye, remembering also that even to push open the doors any of the staff have to use their hands, afterwards returning to the kitchen to probably cook your delicious meals!
Enjoy your next burger in such places!

Next time I go anywhere I'm checking the state of the toilets first.
If they are respectable, I''ll have more faith in the safety of their meals.

I'm never eating again at BK in O'Connell st.

McDonalds and Burger King world wide seem to have disgusting jacks. They're always smelly, bad lighting, warm and humid. The humidity makes the shíte smell so much worse. They never have natural light

Supposedly its supposed to make it harder to see the veins that junkies inject into.
If it works or not, I can't say. Never had to stick a needle into myself (and hope I never will).

Busarus Bus Station put them in years ago too when things got really bad in the underground toilets.

Afterthought: I should add that a lot of places in my own home town (Bars/Disco's) have done similar (- but I'm wandering off main topic...)
