'09 BEST AND WORST FAKE TANS

    I have used:

No 7 - USED to be great but they reformulated, now it slides across the skin as u apply and the colour washes right off in the shower next day.

Piz Buin Summer Sensation - just as I discovered this, yes, they reformulated it. Just used the last of my remaining tube, have it on now, oh goodbye my closest friend! The colour is BEAUTIFUL and it dries in an instant. The new formula in its new packaging Im SURE is great too but they've gona and made the size smaller and have a stupid twisty dial for light through to dark - GUESS WAT? - Sm ppl dont WANT LIGHT OR DARK! Cop on Piz Buin!

Fake Bake - Did NOT develop for me. I noticed No difference. Overpriced hype.

St Tropez - Lotion good. Dont like fact that u have to buff off with flannel tho. Mousse - CRAP. Doesnt Develop right. Sticky & stays sticky.

Clarins - Quite good. Lovely colour.

Bronz Xpress - Lotion EXCELLENT - tinted and dries instantly - u apply with mitt, colour there and then, lasts about 3 days,
Drying tho. And best for occassional use & AHHH IM PURE ******* PALE moments.
Mousse - Stay clear - sticky, smelly undeveloping rubbish.

Skin Deep Wipes - REALLY good - I always get asked where Ive BEEN to get the colour (chemist actually) - bit drying tho - kind of hard to get lately - Pennys used to have masses of them, not anymore:(

Garnier gradual tanner - GREAT. The best one on market, smell, colour, nourishing of the skin, dries in well also.

Johnsons Hol Skin - DISGUSTING smell. U get covered in billions of sticky 'flakes' that u have to 'pick' off. Various parts ur body stick together (thighs, arms to torso) and the colour is unnatural. It does NOT sink in.
I dont know how ANYONE likes or uses it.

Dove grad tanner - Next best to Garnier.

    Post all ur opinions ladies!

    Which one has it ALL???

NO. 7 i used to swear by until they 'new and improved' it.. now its awful.. my fave is St. Tropez, and for emergency's Sally Hansen leg make up, but you can use it all over.. would be fantastic if it stayed, but one drop of water and its gone..

St Tropez Mousse - love it but it takes ages to dry, good colour

St Tropez Lotion - good but feels quite heavy on the skin while drying, nice colour

Lancome Leg Gel - really like this, nice and dark but use a lot in each application which makes it expensive

Lancome Magic Mousse - lovely colour and doesn't take an age to dry, like the tan guide colour

Garnier - Nice light colour, very easy to apply

Fake Bake Spray - dries super quickly, really dark, love it but I'm allergic to it

Skin Deep Wipes - found these extremely patchy

Lancome leg gel-they changed the formula last year and it was brutal but its back the way it used to be a few years ago and i still think its the best. Expensive but definitely worth it.

Fake Bake-messy and mucky hate it, its like putting watery nutella on.

St.Tropez-doesnt develop at all on me waste of money and overhyped

Dove Moisturiser-when i have the patience to apply it 4 nights in a row its lovely

Sally Hansen-fine for legs only but has to be washed off or your sheets/duvet/pillow cases are going in the wash the next day

No.7 holiday glow-same as Dove but only get a slight "glow"

    Lancome leg gel FTW

No 7 - agreed that it used to be much nicer but since they've reformulated I don't use it

Garnier mousse - easy to apply and gives a nice colour [I don't like dark/unnatural looking tans]

I currently use Loreal sublime gel. Really easy to put on. Smells a bit [a nice smell but obvious you've put tan on] and gets a bit icky when it begins to wear off but my fav so far.

To be honest I don't really use fake tan anyway!!

Agree that Johnsons Holiday Skin smells absolutely vile. My mother uses it so I tried it the other night, I actually thought it must have been gone off the smell was so awful.

I use He-Shi fake tan and it's one of the best I've found. Has a slight tint going on so you know where you're putting it and comes out even and streak free. No tan ever takes to my legs properly, explain that one to me!

Loving the new Christian Dior tan - Light gel that smells gorgeous and gives a lovely caramel tan

Also the best gradual tanner IMO is the Dove one, but must try the Garnier one after all the recommendations here. Johnsons is rubbish!

Fake Bake is prob one of best for me color wise. The trick is not to rub it in at all if you want a good result. Is a bit sticky and wearing it in bed cause of stinky smell. Special ocassions like a sun holiday only!

Me too. Whatever tan I use and however I aplly it on my legs it always comes out streaky.

I use Garnier light moisturiser for the rest of my body. Its fantastic.

Have tried everything on my legs but to no avail! I used the St Tropez legs one and apllied it in long sweeping strokes and it looked awful. I put garnier moisturiser on in small, circular strokes and it was streaky. The only tan that ever works on my legs is a proffesional spray tan which is very annoying as I dont have the money to get these done regualar at the moment.

Sally Hansen is great but its thick and I wouldnt want any guy touching my legs when have it on. Any one any suggestions on best way to aplly tan on the legs?

I'm totally loyal the ambre solaire cream: https://www.echemist.co.uk/ProductMedia/1350751031.Jpeg, the stuff that smells like apricots. I think it's the best, I use Dove in between applications to keep it going.

Yeah, I find tan takes to my arms and face but not my neck or chest. Really odd!

Has anybody ever used St Moriz fake tan? Apparently its as good as St Tropez but costs £3. If anybody knows where to buy it in Ireland that's be super??:D

The benefit tinted moisturiser (which is so dark it's really just fake tan with moisturiser as opposed to the other way around) is amazing. I just love it, smells a bit weird when you slap it on but the smell fades once it dries and it lasts for about 2 showers, which is good considering it's instant colour. I dont use anything else, it's just fab.

Ya i've heard the same thing. Apparently it's available in some TK Max stores, but not all. You can also get it on the internet but its a little bit more expensive. Ive seen it on ebay for 6 or 7 euros and you can also get it at http://www.cosmeticsfairy.co.uk/skin-care/bronzing-tanning/st-moriz-instant-self-tanning-mousse.html for around the same i think.

I really want to try it so am going to look in my nearest TK Max this week but if it is not there im gonna get it on ebay cus its still a bargain if you compare it to St Tropez

Oh ya and there is a good review of it on youtube by lollipop26.

    hope his helps :D

I find St. Tropez mousse brilliant. You really have to exfoliate before and moisturise the days afterwards to hold it.

Does anyone know a good one to use on the face? Or can I use St. Tropez on my face too?

Loreal gradual tan brilliant, colour comes up after one application. Very natural looking tan.

I must try Garnier after the good reviews on here though!

I gotta say I find Vani-T fantastic...its organic, fades brilliantly and there is no smell!!! http://www.vani-t.com/
They have a new counter in the arnotts project, and seem to be doing some really good deals on spray tans there at the mo, 20 euros, just booked myself in in preparation for oxygen :)

Sally Hansen airbrush legs I love!

Hey ladies; could anyone tell name of this highly popular Garnier tan and maybe a price as well

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10 pink pirate

i use boots soltan beautiful bronze every few days and its great! exfoliate well in the shower then apply, doesnt take ages to dry either like plenty of others do! i hate being pasty so this gives a natural even colour without lookin like youve been tangoed!!
if i want a bit darker i put rimmel sunshimmer over that, with a mitt!
if im going out for the night and showing my legs it has to be sally hansen!! it gives the best coverage... just be carefull spraying it! i have covered everything around me in it:)!! i always apply it around 2 hours before i go out so it has dried in completely and it doesnt seem to rub off then! ive tried all the colours and i dont think the light one is great, the dark is quite dark and wouldnt recommend it for the daytime!

    hope this is usefull:)!!

I always use No.7 (the few times I can be bothered to put on tan!) and I love it. Didn't know they had changed the formula so might steer clear of it when I need to stock up on tan again.

HATE Johnson's, it smells so bad! I was in a chemist one day and the girl behind the till was trying her best to sell it to my friend, saying it didn't smell at all, yada yada yada. I had to go up to her afterwards and tell her it smells disgusting!

Can't beat Sally Hansen, I use it anytime I'm baring my legs cos it just looks so natural!

Bought the Dove gradual tanner but I haven't used it yet so I'm hoping for good results since it's been recommended on this thread!

So you cant find the Ambre Solaire apricot one anymore either
    - except for online???
Such a shame - it was so brilliant!
I will log on to echemist and we will possibly fight over supplies! :)

It could be the hair removal method you are using - do you wax?
Waxing consistently removes dead skin cells (and tan) and obviously makes your skin slippery smooth, this could be the cause.
    As could shaving.

I personally use an epliator and have never looked back - it swipes hair from the root (as in waxing) but does not remove tan or over-smooth the skin, so my false tan always takes.
I used have the same problem.
If you buy an epilator I reccommend Braun. They should pay me for that.
It could take up to 28 days of epilator usage for your skin to slow down its pace of exfoliation (assuming it IS waxing you do) before a tan would take for you. 28 days being the time it takes for total cell renewal.
But note: You wouldnt have to epilate EVERYDAY, its lasts a few days before having to do again and over time the hairs get thinner and thinner, as in waxing PLUS you dont have to epliate as often over time.

    Hope Ive helped!

LOTS of (sometimes unwarranted) advice but there you go!

    Moisturising Tans:
BEST: Def Dove, smells lovely and goes on naturally,
WORST: Johnsons Holiday Skin, actually dries your skin as opposed to moisturising!!.smells vile and v v patchy!

    Instant Tans:
BEST: Sally Hanson, dead easy to apply, i find it doesnt wash off easily, lovely even colour and covers all marks(tip...when its dried in, use a mit and lightly brush the legs with a a smal amount of rimmel instant tan, it takes the kinda makeup-ey look off your legs that comes from sally hanson sometimes)
WORST: Lancome spray instant tan..really expensive, very brown, rubs off on everything and doesnt go on smoothly

    Developing Tans:
BEST: lancome leg gel...cannot say it enought, ab the best product iv ever ever bought, may be expensive but you'd get at least 3 full body tans out of the bottle, so easy to apply, litterally slap it on and NO STREAKS!!!..dries quickly, smells grand and has a lovely shimmer in it. It would last a good week if you moisturise and wears away gradually so no white patches

WORST: Loreal Tanning Mist...maybe im just spoilt buy not having to be so careful with the lancome but this was really patchey..smelled horrible and was very drying

Rich%20Silken%20Chocolate%201001.jpgVita liberata fake tan in "Silken Chocolate". You can get this in boots and i think it's brilliant!! Cos it's a brown liquid u can see any spots ur missing and comes out very natural. U can shower the next morning if it comes out too dark for your liking or if ur happy with colour then just have a very light rinse in the shower.
I swear i dont work for them i just cant recommend it enough!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭insert-gear

That vita liberta stuff is 30 quid in boots. The garnier one was reduced to a tenner from 15...guess which one I went with. Putting the garnier one on tonight so I will let you all know.

Also I'm a minimal effort girl, there will be no exfoliating or any of that lark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 686 ✭✭✭insert-gear

Update: Put it on last night, colour is quite nice. It didnt take to my legs well though, will have to put some more on tonight

Incidentally does anyone know what it is youre supposed to do to your tan with a lemon. Just rub it on the patches that turned out darker isnt it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 214 ✭✭piscean

I was using Guinot - used to get it in the local salon but they changed the formula - used to be brown going on but its a spray now and its clear - don't like it at all.

Might go back to Vita Liberta:)
