    Quick question…..
I bought an Iphone 3gs PAYG last week…… I put another 02 sim (bill pay) card into the phone and it worked.
I rang CPW where I bought the iPhone looking to buy an o2 clear sim to put into my iphone …. The girl said it can’t be done. Is this correct. Can o2 tell what phone is being used with their sim cards.
Also is it possible to add a data package to o2 clear sim ….

I'm using a 3G with o2 clear also, on the cheapo clear 50 tariff with the 250MB data add-on.

They can tell from your IMEI but it doesn't matter. They won't stop you from using whatever phone you like, unless it was reported stolen or something, in which case it would be barred.

I asked this question on the O2 forums.

I was told that they can tell from the IMEI if you're using an iPhone and that if they detect you using an iPhone with a non-iPhone plan that you'll have to change tariff.

So how much is this costing you per month for the whole thing?

I am currently on PAYG but this looks like it will be cheaper than what I am spending ATM.

Will I be able to keep my current sim card and they can just switch me over? Do I keep any credit that I would have?

And also lastly is this by direct debit, and am I right in thinking only 30 day rolling contract with the clear plan?

This I dont understand....the plan for 175 mins 100 texts 10 mms and 1 GB of data is 45 a month. 200 Quid for the original phone 16gb 3gs.

    200+
    45 x 18 months of contract
    270
    €470

Cost of Iphone 3gs on PAYG €520 - free credit €50

    = €470 - Then paying 12 months of contract at 29 + 6 for the add on

Now I think some of you bought yours when payg was cheaper on the 3G but now its not worth it at all.

    Unless im missing something???

They know from the IMEI - I got a text from them reminding me to upgrade to version 3.0 OS, although I'm not on an iPhone price plan.

On AV Forums people have been using the simplicity sim (UK equivalent of the clear sim) in the iPhone with no problems.

thanks again. I Was switched over To the new plan in 5 mins and no problems so far. Going to wait a few months to see what my bills are like. I might consider unlocking and switch back to 3.

If i got that €45 a month package I'd end up paying about €80 a month with the amount of texts I send, that's why I'm interested in this. So has anyone tried it with a 3GS?

I have a 16gb one which actually cost 570 i think but i got mine for a very cheap price from a friend who didnt want it any more. The reason im on o2 clear is because im not tied to an 18 month contract! also the package i have (which is nearly the same as iphone tarrif) is 10 euro cheaper a month.

I have had a hacked iphone 2g on my O2 number for over 1 year now. At the start I mentioned I had an iphone(for insurance purposes) and low and behold they switched my tarrif. I got on to them and lifted them out of it for changing me without my permission. They spouted some babble about switching me so i could get optimum performance ect. They changed me back straingt away and I got 3 months free rental for it.

Thus I really cant see them switching you and not letting you change.

My monthly bill on clear 50 with the data add on is less than €25. I never really go outside the bundled texts/minutes. I told them when I switched back (came from Three) that it was an iPhone and it didn't matter.

this is interesting. so how do you pay for your plan? like, do you set this up as direct debit?

interested to see. my plan would be to get the 02 clear 50, plus the 6 or 7 euro data plan and use webtexts.

so i presume if its direct debit you just get charged for the extra calls and texts?

    thanks.
