I also searched all the major sites, to see which was the best vaue to have the books covered and delivered....I found that www.schoolbooksireand.ie to be the best as delivery was 6.50 but all books were covered free of charge. Although it says that the free covering service ended at the end of June, some-one on another site said it was extended to mid-July so it might be worth contacting them to see if it is still on.

We got them from www.schoolbooks.ie the last two years but ill price those sites incase.

Have to give O'Mahonys a vote of approval, I've no connection with them. Got all books delivered recently, very quick efficient service and the covers are worth paying for, very well done.
Not sure that it's a bargain alert though, prices of school books seem to vary very little, maybe a price war is needed.

Good work. And thanks for the sites - my kids are starting Sr Infants and the local bookshop is very expensive - especially when I've to get two of everything.

I'd vote to move this to the Primary & preschool forum

Done, use code BTSWEB008 for 5% off, still cheaper for me from O'Mahoneys.

Free book covering no longer available, sent them an email.

Did a MAJOR search on this, including UK sources.

    www.omahonys.ie won hands down.

    http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=r9r0JDHpFj1BSguGRyUdpzA&single=true&gid=0&output=html

All my books delivered and covered for less than €100, bargain.

Link above is for Dromtrasna NS, Abbeyfeale, Junior Infants only so may not be good for you.

5 sites is a Major search?
I would not call a €5 difference between the highest and lowest a hands down win. No doubt it's a win, you make it sound like they trounced the competition.

Compared to local bookshops it is, which I can't unserstand as the online retailers are not discounting. Another parent paid €122 for the same books, covered.

UK suppliers were very expensive due to the specialist nature of the Gaelic books, didn't even bother listing the 2 that actually supplied them.

    Amazon etc were very poor.

When you consider that Easons charged 20% more I do see that as a bargain.

Also there is very little difference in the wholesale prices due to limited number of suppliers fixing the price.

Heres another site : www.schoolbooksonline.ie they are doing free covers until 15th July. Seems to be no difference in the book prices for any of these sites - are the suppliers allowed to fix the price ? I thought they can only have a rrp but surely online suppliers should be able to offer a discount .

Good find, updated as they are cheaper, though for some reason charging me €2.20 for deliver cost of the covering?

Cormicans in Athlone and Roscommon are good also.

For the last two years I bought from ABCBooks www.ABCBookshop.ie
At the moment you get free covering when you use the code BRDFBC and free delivery if the order is over €49. You can also collect at the sho, but since I am from Cork it is a bit of a drive. I did incorporate it in a trip to the Galway Races a few years ago, but money is too tight to go this year.
From my search that is the best. Don't know how long the offer will last though.

Just sat down with the receipt of books I bought for my son who is going into first class. They were bought in Tony Clark's book shop in Limerick and I checked the prices against the www.ABCBookshop.ie website. Every single book was the same price down to the cent. So fair play to Tony Clark's because they are a bricks and mortar store.

My local bricks and mortar schoolbook suppliers offer a discount to teachers, think it's 10% so I get one of my family members who's a teacher to get the books for me, I just email in the order and when they're ready the teacher collects and pays for them. I then pay her but I've saved at least 10% which was a very good saving last year when one of mine was starting secondary school.

Our secondary school has a bookshop and they charge the same as local shops but if I've only got to get the odd book then I'll get it there, at least any profit the school makes goes back into the school and my children will benefit from that.

Thanks CorkJack for the ABC tip. After ordering books from there now and got free shipping and covering.

Have a look at http://www.omahonys.ie/catalog/schoolbooks.php?cPath=1230 - O'Mahony's are now giving free 10% off vouchers during July. How would this affect your original conclusion ch750536? :)

Free delivery applies to everything too - not just school books.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,736 ✭✭✭ch750536

Seems they have changed the offer

'We are now giving back Vouchers on all orders over EUR 100! For the month of July only, orders over EUR 100 will receive a EUR 10 voucher, over EUR 200 will get a EUR 20 voucher etc.
The voucher can be used on your next order for any items except those in our Schoolbooks category'

So as my order is €98 does not change much, either way it is a voucher off the next purchase, not including schoolbooks.

Easons are doing free postage at the moment on all orders over €10 (inc. schoolbooks) ordered from their website. You can also order back to school stationery from the website

Try www.wiseowl.ie, order online for delivery or collection from any of their 10 branches. Next day despatch on most orders. Friendly and efficient service both instore or online. Second hand books available instore.

They were 20% more than their competitors, poor show on this occasion.

If you use this code SDFBC for abcbooks.ie, it gets you free book covering
I used the code on Tuesday at check out stage.
When you check out after entering the code, it does not show on your order that the covering is included, i mailed them and they said yes it would.
Great service from them, books arrived this morning, express post and each book covered in strong plastic coversfor free.

Thanks Andrew. I have used the code and it's working fine. I spoke to them and they said that the book covering will be free.

    Hi,
Another satisfied customer here. I ordered my books yesterday morning from the ABC site, used the code for free book covers & they all arrived today.
Very impressed with the service. Thanks for the tipoff. :)

Just used that SDFBC code with ABC books and it's still functioning, I was charged 6.50 delivery though. From the cursory look I took at primary school books there doesn't seem to be much competition amongst the vendors, most of the books were within 10 cents of the RRP.
