Getting a company's registered PAYE number

I'm trying to get a credit certificate from the Revenue at the moment to get emergency tax sorted out. The company I was previously working for have been dicking about with my P45 and it appears that they haven't processed it. In order to get a credit certificate, I need the old company's PAYE number which I can't get directly from them (for some unknown reason). Is there anywhere like the CRO that has that information available?

Isn't this just the PPSN of the business? You should be able to get their VAT no. easily enough (it's often at the bottom of business correspondence/invoices/receipts and will be in the standard format ie 7 digits and a letter) and it's usually the same number for all their taxheads.

It is the same but none of their correspondance has it on it

Why can't you request it from the secretary or something? Are they withholding it? It is confidential info I suppose so ya might be snookered!

I have requested it repeatedly but they're not forthcoming with it, despite being chased up.

That doesn't sound good. Can you name the company? Can you speculate on why they'd be giving you the runaround? Perhaps they weren't making PAYE/PRSI contributions for you? Do you have payslips? Perhaps the company is going to the wall with outstanding tax liabilities etc...a common enough story in this economic climate.

They are a huge contracting company, got payslips, everything seemed to be above board. I would prefer not to name them though.

As in construction industry? Just because they're a big boy doesn't mean they're not tax dodging cowboys...But I see your issue...are you sure Revenue can't help you? I recommend calling into their public office in person and seeing what they say. They must have a procedure for it.

you can get the PAYE number (it is often called EMPLOYER REG NO ) in a few ways

1 . Your last p60 if you were at work on 31st December and the company gave it to you

    2. Each payslip.

    3. TAX Certificate from Revenue that has your Tax credits details on it.

    1. Wasn't contracting with them before the January

    2. The payslips didn't have it on them

    3. That's what I'm trying to get

Got it sorted this morning anyway
