Has anyone here know of or done the Irish & Religion Studies degree here? Is there more emphasis put on Religion Studies?

It's been a while, but certainly in the past the religious element was the one more emphasised. Mind you, it was the subject that got people the jobs, so there wasn't much complaining.

Mater Dei is a good teacher education course. All the 'new' ideas and approaches - multiple intelligences, assessment for learning, etc, were being covered in Mater Dei almost 30 years ago.

** Sorry, I'm presuming the Irish course is an additional option to the original Music, History or English electives - aimed at teacher training. Apologies if it's a different degree.

There certainly used to be, but everywhere seems to be losing jobs now. From what I can see Home Economics and Woodwork are still fairly sure bets, location-permitting. Our school tried for three years to get a Woodwork teacher. In the end we gave up and changed the room into a library. We had a second Home Ec. teacher for less than a month last year as she got an offer of a job that suited her better.

I attend Mater dei and there is defiantly more emphasis on the religion.
