Would you do hillclimbing (motor sport kind)

You can use any car, all they ask is you complete the licence day, attach a bit of tape to the battery to indicate positive pole, and a decal to indicate which way to turn key to switch off the car..

They also attach a black strip to break the time barrier.

The point here is you can use any car at all.

Technically no longer recognised nor named as 'rallying' but Night Navigation Trials are definitely cheap , challenging & immense fun!

not much in the way of cheap ralling nowadays.... to compete in hill climbs or sprints you need a car that may aswell be a rally car. as in the only difference i can think of off hand would be that you dont need a plumbed in fire eater or a harness bar for hans, a co-pilot seat... night navs would be a place to start... if you want to go forestry rallying then you need a rally car. cheapest on the go at the mo are the 205's, corsa/nova's and maybe some old tye civics. still a few standard ones around for sale. but if there cheap its cause theyr totally wrecked. youll find it hard to get to stage start on day 1 without spending at least 5k.. that includes doing a whole lot of work yourself. gear(helmet, suit, boots, gloves, nomex undies) alone will cost you over a grand.. i got all my stuff second hand for 800.

have to agree with biomech a cheap car is not the best route there are plenty of tired recked heaps about you would be better going for a car that you can will hold value and can be developed and improved somthing like an escort or a nova start 1400 and over time you can upgrade to big and more expensive power, these civics and 205's are one stop shops and many of those hondas are poor cars after all you pay for what you get.as for the hiring game it costly heres and example at maybe the mid to higher level to hire a good going Gp4 escort is 5k + for a stages rally

maybe try a season of hot rodding to get the taste of the speed and the track, if you like it you can carry on in to rallying, its cheap as chips and on every sunday, just get the car and a cage and your set:D

    can you drive a bike?

Motocross is the best sport around and is as cheap as motorsport gets.

Puntos and Unos are still going, although alot of the guys are moving from Uno`s to the Puntos. A Uno can be found for around 2k (their are two on adverts.ie for less than that).

Yip, I've an Uno for sale, EUR1950, ready to race. They're great craic to drive actually, rear is practically solid on them to very easy to get them sideways!!

Championship is on every year, lots of new guys started in this year. Single race day is EUR210 and a double-header is around EUR350. Races are in Mondello National and International, Kirkisotwn and sometimes an away race in Angelsey or similar.

I found rallying tough due to the extra time and effort required for recce, and help with service crews. Racing you can turn up on your own any Sunday and off you go!!

Cheapest form of motorsport HAS to be autotesting
    Check out:
    http://www.tdcireland.com/

Membership of the club is €20 and event entry is usually €20/€30ish. And it looks good craic. I've tried this in Mondello and it's great. Was thinking of trying it out myself ;)
