Whats the craic like in Maynooth? Like compared to UCD and Galway that people always say are the best craic? Do most people go out most night, are there loads of house parties etc..?

Depends on your preference - I hated it when I first got here because there was nothing but pubs

There is no craic to be found in Maynooth, all the students study theology and canon law so we dont have time for socializing due to going to mass and all that. ;)

    Only joking.

Maynooth is great for heading out as most people head to the one place on a cretin night. I always seem to find that people who head out live in the town as its a bit of a pain trying to get home from if you dont live there.

Monday - Mostly first years out in O'Niells.
    Tuesday - rest night
Wednesday - Arts students out (as they head home on Thursdays because they are not in Fridays) in Brays.
Thursday - Always seems to be from second year up out in the Roost.

Though there is a new club opening on Friday so don't know if everyone will just head there from now on.

    EDIT:
I also hated it, I can still remember going to Bradys for the first time and saw the so called 'dance floor' I was in shock as I had been used to clubs. I also didnt know anyone and hated my house mates but from December of 1st year on I loved it and now am scared going to 4th year as its gonna be my last year.

Yes have been to Maynooth quite a few times. Three pubs on the main street. The city pub , the country pub and then there is one in between. The last time i was in one of them the TV wasn't working but the punters were still staring up at it. A quiet town!

OP, UCD is as much craic as a Tuesday night in Tehran. You're right about NUIG, thats the only college where I'm fully convinced they make us look weak.
are there loads of house parties etc..?

    Befriend the Donegal people.
Do most people go out most night

Does anyone go out most nights? €€€€ and all that. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday are always big nights. Most people do one religiously, or two in a week if the money permits.

Sorry for hijacking but it a full or half day Friday for other students?

Depends on course. Also, it's only first year arts students who don't take either French or Psychology that have Fridays off. Assuming all other students have managed to avoid having tutorials/language labs on a Friday that is.

Ah I thought it was to good to be true alright :):D, Im gonna be doing Accounting and Finance, but I was hoping to try and get in even some part time work during the week to keep the funds going! Or will it be after 5 mon- fri by the time I would be finished?

Just finished that course. In first year I had one Friday class at 10. Not the best time to have a maths class after being out in the Roost the previous night. Cant remember if I had class in 2nd yr for Fridays, 3rd year I didn't.
Anyway, if you can get maybe a job to work in the afternoons, you'll be flying. You could do a job 5 onwards, maybe. You get very little hours during the week at is and a 5pm class is just unlucky. Wait till you get your hands on a timetable first.
(I'm wreaked so post is not structured whatsoever)

You're from Donegal...god, the place is like 'Little Donegal' or something, crazy amount. Good thing the accent is nice to listen to and the men are generally tall!

It's in Kildare so it's little Dublin as well.

Maynooth is epic for partying, and house parties happen every now and then, never really that big... You end up seein the same faces around most of the time though which can kinda get to you. Totally recommend it for the craic, everyone's really laidback and up for a laugh, and your not likely to get into bother with fights or that, compared to what you would get in Dublin or Galway.
And befriend the Donegalians, we're insane craic!

Never went out, it seemed fairly boring, nothing funny ever happened ;)

Fine, I feel like I was in a slightly more civilised Ibiza for 3 years.:D

Whenever people tell me about hilarious or strange things that happened to them during their "crazy" undergrad days, I just laugh I think, "that's like less craic than I had in the average week when I was in Maynooth"

Random events that make nosense seem to crop up all the time, like that night everyone started playing football in the middle of Maynooth at 3 in the morning and then knocked over one of those fancy lampposts. I mean how did that start? They were all complete strangers, must have been 40 of them playing football and blocking the streets. It seemed normal at the time but it would be really strange if it happened in Rathmines or my home town.

Craic in maynooth is great during the college year. All you need in maynooth for craic is a few quid and some friends, the entertainment will just happen. It's very easy to meet new people and everyone's fairly easy-going in Maynooth. I remember in first year a tutor gave me an extra week to do an assignment because I didn't have it ready and he had met me in the Roost the night before, smashed, and said "don't worry about the tutorial tomorrow morning, i might not even make it in". What a legend.

Yes, the craic is great during the year, but they could do a little more for post-grads during the year and especially when the regular college year is over, I feel like Kim Jong il here the last few weeks, so ronery...... :(

But its a good laugh otherwise...
