Ligament problem, how long before it's too late for marathon training?

I started running last year specifically so I could do this years Dublin City Marathon. All was going well until about 4 weeks ago when I did some damage to the ligaments in my right ankle while cycling, and I haven't run a step since.

The ankle is finally at the stage where it's nearly better again, and I was planning on going out this morning, but when I got up I felt a slight twinge in it and I didn't want to risk damaging it again so I'm probably going to leave it another week to be on the safe side.

The thing is what do I do if I'm not 100% again in another week? How long can I put off doing any running and still be able to do enough training to even get around the circuit? I've put a lot of effort into preparing for this starting out from zero exercise up to 20 odd miles a week when I injured myself and I'm a bit gutted to have to stop now just when training proper was about to start.

Make sure your following the good guidelines for recovery..
Keep that foot elevated when resting, contrast bathe at this stage, bucket of cold water bucket of warm water and a few mins in one followed by the other x 4.
Keep taking anti-inflammatories..or do take them!
Massage to get rid of scar tissue and knots.

Best thing to do also is relax! no point rushing back and going full bull and getting re injured.

    Good luck!
