    Hi All,
We have two new iPhones in our house and have both noticed that when you enter a password in an app...it initially shows you what you have entered until you touch the next letter/number when it then turns to a dot/star.
Has anyone else noticed this small problem...and is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks :)

That's not a problem, that's the way it was designed.

It's standard across most mobile phones when entering a password.

Thanks Tom but I still think it is a little strange :)

The idea is to allow you to see what letter you've just typed to help when you make a mistake. It stops you from having to delete the whole thing when you make a typo.

yeah its on the last 2 nokia's i had as well. I think its a very good idea for security. No way to stop it though as far as I'm aware.

Well it's there for your password protection.

slightly related, hope its ok to post here - can iPhone remember passwords like the Safari on Mac does?

Can't remember the technical term for it on the Mac, i think it might be 'autofill'?

Also, I notice when i turn off iPhone, it forgets the name/password of my wifi network at home and i have to type it in again. Is there anyway to store it?
Once u dont turn it off, it just logs in itself each time, but power off seems to wipe it.

    So much to learn! :)

Go to Settings > Safari > Autofill

Well see I would just prefer it go straight to a dot or star...I know my passwords...I don't need to see what letter I am on when it is not an 3/4 letters per button type phone. It doesn't bother me just something I noticed.

You don't maybe, but many do. Its very easy to hit the wrong key by mistake - I do it often enough and I've been using the keyboard for the best part of a year and a half.

One thing which Apple sold in a big way on the iPhone was the intelligent auto-correct. For all intents and purposes it allows you bash away on the keyboard with impunity and nine times out of ten the iPhone will correctly guess what you meant to type.

It's easy to get into this habit to the point that it would be easy to mistype passwords without noticing. I find the "show the last letter" setup to be essential really.
