I just finished Uni and I know there is no work in Ireland for me so Ive moved to England (staying with friends gratis) to find work. Its proving difficult. Is it possible for me to sign on and then be in the UK actively seeking work?

no, you have to be resident in the republic to sign on here.

However, you should look into signing on in the UK.

you can try to get your claim transfered to the uk, i think you can do it for 3 months.

well, to be resident you have to be living at an Irish address.

If you'd applied while you were still here you could have tried to get your claim transferred for up to 9 weeks (I've heard about this anyway, don't know if it's true, you'd have to ask)

But since you're already there you'll probably just have to apply for the dole in the uk.

If you want to get your claim transferred you can for up to 78 days, however you must be in payment here first. If you apply and then go straight away before your payment was awarded, you wouldn't be able to transfer it.
IronyMaiden is right in saying you have to be living in this country to claim - you are living in another country currently so have no entitlement to irish social welfare.

i just made a claim, and they told me that i should expect a inspector visit to my house within the next 4 working days. Is this normal? what if he comes and i am not at the house? what if he doesnt come at all?

i have to come back home for a few weeks anyway, for personal reasons. if i sign on then how long do i have to stay in ireland before i can come back to the uk? there is no work in ireland and i have alot more chance of finding something in the uk. whats the point of staying in ireland if there are NO jobs .

You can only transfer Jobseekers benefit not jobseekers allowance unfortunatly so you wouldnt be able to transfer it anyway, and there is a couple of months wait in some places.
As far as i know with benefit you have to claiming it for at least 4 weeks before you can transfer that.
