Shouldn't a crown be smooth and shiny??

Had 2 crowns fitted on back molars a week ago and nothing but problems with one in particular and going back to see the dentist today. Another thing bothering me now, though not as much as the badly fitting crown, is the fact that both crowns feel quite rough. I have been told that porcelain crowns should be smooth, even smoother than "real" teeth but mine feel rougher than the temp crowns I had for a few weeks.

It's just something else to ask my dentist about today so any advice much appreciated as ever! :D

I had a gold crown fitted a few years ago. It's surface contours were not perfectly smooth - just like a real tooth.

My bite did not feel the same. I felt that I was biting and that the crown was hitting the opposite tooth first and that the rest of my jaw could not close down. My dentist did a little trimming on the surface of the crown and the tooth facing the crown and it was fine. It seems to be hard to get a perfect fit at once but you should not be left with a harsh or uncomfortable bite. Fine tuning required !!
