Hey I am just wondering has anybody heard yet of the final proposals on third level fees that Education Minister Batt O' Keeffe wants to introduce. It's just I'm on holidays at the moment so it's hard to find out. His department said they would be finalised by late June. Thanks...

    No news yet.

I have a feeling they'll announce them in the next budget and bring them in in 2010. I hope they don't but it seems likely they'll be back. I don't know how I'm going to survive three or four years with fees on top of accommodation etc!

How does it work with students already in third level? I finished my first year (mature student). I read that the government may/will introduce it for new students only and those already enrolled are exempt. If that is the case I'm delighted with it but feel sorry for the new students who will have to pay.

While that is the case, the Registration Fee has still gone up to €1,500 for students for 2009/10. OK it's not the same as getting the full amount from the student as what'll happen in the future but it's still an increase.
