    A pretty pointless topic.

Being honest, not a lot, football and world sport in general has advanced at a crazy rate in the last 30-40 years. They were amazing in their day but if they were still playing nowadays you would have to see how each of them would cope with modern training regimes and conditioning.

That's not a valid poitn at all as they had the brain and the technique all the lack compared to current players would be the fittness levels and diet, which, if they were playing today, they would have anyway.

Hlaf the list have played at the highest level in tle last 15 years and TBH not a whole lot has changed.

Out of the recent ones the only person i can vouch for is bergkamp, not so sure any of the rest would go for figures near what ronaldo or kaka went for

when you think about it though, Roy Keane was bought in 1992 for a British transfer record of £3.75m. If that is in todays terms, a British transfer record would be in the region of £35m. In that amount of time that is how fees have inflated

Easy enough to do some of the maths here.

Current world record transfer fee when its complete=80m.

MARADONNA - Once the world record at 6m
GULITT - Once the world record at 7m

Stands to reason that those two would be in the 80 or so bracket.

VAN BASTEN - Constantly regarded as the greatest striker ever so work that one out.

BTW, this has to be the most meaningless thread ever on this board!

maradona was in a different league compared to any player playing today, if c.ronaldo goes for £80m, a 1986 maradona playing today would be worth £120m+

lol you are kidding right, pele, charlton, cryuff, best etc playing in a era of muck pitches, heavy boots, a lead weight ball, in times when defenders were allowed to tackle and did. go watch the world cup from 86, every time maradona gets the ball a defender tries to take him out from behind, now imagine those guys playing today with a lightweight ball that flies through the air, flat manicured pitches, no tackling from defenders, christ it would be insane, pele would be scoring 100 goals a season

How about telling us the highest fee ever paid for any of these players and in what year that was and then factor in inflation and see what you end up with?

We all know that, do you really think any of us believe that a player should cost any substantial amount of money or get paid a substantial amount of money??? Nope, but I suppose I'd take it if it was handed to me!
