I was a real fan of this particular car - my father had a stock R18 TS which he claims was a great motor (until the engine caught fire one day on a trip to Kerry!). There was a Renault salesman who lived on our road that frequently drove home the turbo editions of the 9, 11 and 18 series. If I recall rightly there was a special silver edition of the R18 Turbo that had different alloys and detailing to the one shown above?

They drive in a Typical 80's Renault, rolly poly sold of way. Really the chassis was only just able for the extra power, and the brakes were NOT able for it.
Really the Turbo was another way of getting 2.0litre power from a 1.6 engine.
This early Turbo is 110bhp,which is the same power at a 2.0litre engine used in the 2.0l 18s,Fuego GTX 2.0 AND the famous 20TS.
Later 18 Turbos had 125BHP and then it was upgraded for the Fuego Turbo to 132bhp. Handling is not bad,and it is lively, and would certainly beat an equavalent current 110bhp Laguna(THAT WOULDN'T BE HARD)but because its a light car it probably feels much quicker. Park it beside any modern Renault and it looks quite small. It was the Laguna of its day,but the Megane makes it look small,,,,,but those seats,,oh what comfort.I could watch that BOOST gauge all day:D
