Help for a friend

Hey my friend was in NUIG last year (first year), not gonna say what course for her sake. But basically she didn't do alot of work, and failed most of her exams. She realises now that she ****ed up, was planning on doing the repeats and knuckling down next year or changing course.
But, her parents freaked. As in, they are making her give up her job (which is essentially a work placement she got through contacts-would look very well after graduating. They're also not letting her back to college next year, making her sell her car and not letting her go to Oxegen or on a holiday she had planned (and paid for). It's pretty messed up. There's literally nothing I can do to help her, but are there any student help centres or anything up there she could get in contact with that could give her advice or talk to her parents? In fact, anybody ever been in a similar situation? What did yee do?

Its not as if she's the first fresher that this has happened to, but you could see her parents side too in that it was costing them money to keep her in college and she treats the opportunity like that in arsing around for the year. So id say theyre doing her a favour in a tough love way by making her see consequences to her 9 months of dossing...just like the real world. It would be worse if this went on till the last year and she was scraping through and came out with rubbish results in her degree.
Sounds like she needs to take responsibility, forget Oxegen and holidays and get her act together and realise the job market shes facing into and stop taking her folks for a ride.

Plus inform her parents that if she managed to switch course and im fairly sure she'd need to have done the cao thing to start a new one, she would have to pay full fees for it, probably about 4-5000 quids. So locking her in her room with books is fair enough (plus she wont get sunburn)
