Who are the greatest artists, in your opinion, to breakthrough since Hip-Hop died (May 18 2006)?

Termanology, Reks, Marco Polo are the three that come to mind for me.

Hip-hop aint dead. C'mon, how have you not seen through the marketing brilliance of the title. Where do you think Jay-z got the inspiration for D.O.A.

****, just this summer/autumn we have new roots, new mos def, new reflection eternal, new nas and damian marley, new slaughterhouse, new jay-z, new raewkon with OBFCLII, new dr. dre (Allegedly) new buckshot and krs-one, new clipse.

And by the way, there was no golden age. There, i said it.

Death of Hip-Hop is simply to make it big you have to compromise on artistic integrity, like main stream hip-hop between 1986-1997 had classics such as "36 Chambers", "Ready to Die", "Illmatic", "Reasonable Doubt" and many, many others, and each of the artists that worked on these became Multi-Millionaires.

But now a days the people making significant money from hip-hop are rappers like Kanye West, Lil Wayne, Nelly, and T.I.
Decent Hip-Hop is now mainly underground, the artists that should be famous are being over-looked for those who can buy a decent hook.
Also now a days mainstream Hip-Hop has lost touch with its roots, instead of being about urban strife, dreams, ghetto parties and black power the music is now about frontin.

In fairness though, all of the above albums were all classics because they were not richy and famous when they made them. Nas was just a hungry mc trying to show ill he was when he made illmatic. After that, he got a taste of success and starting chasing fame and fortune, which ultimately lead to nastradamus. It was only when he fell back off, and realised he would never make it that he came back strong. And don't get me wrong, i love Jay, but his most horrible attempts at commercial mass appeal were on reasonable doubt (ain't no nigga, brooklyn's finest) and vol. 1 (sunshine, i know what girls like, heart of the city). As for biggie, he did more to promote the commercialisation of hip-hop than anybody not named sean combs or mc hammer.

Not saying they weren't all great albums, but there are just as many great albums out recently. I love all of those albums, but my favourite albums are all "post golden age." And who cares if they don't blow. Of the mc's you named, jay-z was the only one who has actually had a truly great and consistent career, not just a great debut album, although nas has come back STRONG! They made a great, grimey debut, popped a few corks and made some wack ass ****/made some wack ass **** and got shot in LA.

I don't see that being any different to T.I. (trap muzik, although it was his second album), nelly (country grammar), kanye (college drop-out) who had great debuts and then went poppy.

Anyway, personally i prefer my emcees poor, hungry and underrated. Keeps them with something to prove.
