I don't know if this is the right forum to post in, sorry if it isn't.

I am an Ebay seller and recently sold an item which amounted to just over 700 euro. About two weeks after the sale I was contacted by paypal stating there had been a chargeback for unautherised activity on the credit card used to pay for the item.

I looked up the tracking info for the item just to be sure it was delivered and according to the tracking it was.

I emailed the buyer friday night asking was there as problem with the item and could they confirm delivery. The mailed back saturday morning saying they were happy with the item and confirmed delivery obviously. I mailed back stating there had been a chargeback on the card used to pay for the item and could he explian this. He mailed back saying he lost his wallet and his cards were cancelled and the purchase was chargeback by mistake and he'd call his bank to correct it. That was saturday morning. I mailed Saturday evening asking had he been on to his bank. He didn't mail back. I have tried to ring his mobile many many times since friday evening and it constantly gives a message that the person is not available ( the message is by the mobile provider). Thinking maybe the banks were not open until today I was thinking maybe he had to wait until monday to call his bank. So I sent an email monday morning. And have not heard back. And still no answer from his phone. Also tried mailed and ringing today and still no reply or answer

I have provided paypal with all the tracking info ect. But I'm wondering should I call the Gardai to give them the address of where the item was delivered to? Or is there anyone else that can be rang for advice?
Or should I take the buyers word for what happen and just keep waiting?

    Thanks.

The person you were talking to is either a scammer who stole the card, or is the card owner and they falsely claimed it was stolen. Either way, the fraud is between Ebay/Paypal and the card company, it doesn't involve you directly, so not a lot you can do with the Gardai. They won't investigate the fraud of another person's account, but you could give them the address if there's already an investigation in progress. This is unlikely though.

Bottom line, you've lost the money and goods, and there's SFA you can do about it. Sellers are not protected on eBay, and I'm quite surprised that there is anyone even willing to use it still.

Was the buyer Paypal verified? This would mean it was the card holders Paypal account, and not an account set up with a stolen card. This would lead you to believe the actual card holder is the fraudster.

ouch.. did you withdraw the funds before the chargeback was issued?

Well the majority of the funds went to my suppier for the item. THey've been paid.

My profit on the item was not that much. But now my paypal account is negative by a large amount, so i can't sell anything else on ebay until this is decided.

I noticed on ebay yesterday the buyer had bought another TV, this time a 40 inch one. Presumably he's either using a stolen credit card again, or is planning to do the same thing to this seller.

Idk if he is a verified member idk where it says that. My biggest isssue is, I can't even find out if the buyer's address is the address that is registerred to the credit card that was used. Due to the data protection act apparently. I have to wait up to 75 days to wait for the casew to be decided.

If it was a stolen credit card, there probably won't be muchg use calling the Gardai after 75 days.

I don't suppose anyone lives in Ballymun? To see if this guy even exists.

At least you have the funds..
You might need to open a new paypal account using another bank account/credit card if you have registered yours with paypal..
