    Hi all,

Planning a change of address later this year. My current permissions are in Waterford, but planning a move to Cork. Will I need to seek new permissions or join a gun club when I move. Or do ye think my current permissions will be ok for FO in new area?

    Cheers.

You will have to change. As far as i can remember you have to get a letter from your new Garda station confirming that you are living at that address then hand it in to the old station and they will send it to head office to notify change of address so your new firearm cert will be issued to the new garda station. You do not need to seek new permission or join a new club.

I went through an address change. It does need to be changed. All I did was ring the Sergeant at my original station and advise of my move. I gave them my new address and then they rang the new Sergeant in my area and let him know I was moving as they needed to send over copies of my permission letters etc. Once that was done and I actually moved I rang my new station and set up a meeting with my new sergeant and introduced myself. They then changed my address on the licence's involved. It was actually quite easy even if my new sergeant is a pain... hope it helps

Will I have to leave my rifle in with a dealer in the peroid between informing old station and issue of new cert?

I seem to remember hearing/reading somewhere (possibly here) that the 'acceptability' of permissions is entirely at the discretion of your local Superintendant.
Cork's a big county, but assuming that your permissions in Waterford aren't too far away from your new home, they'll probably be fine.

    How far is 'too far'?
That's up to your new Super.

I'd imagine that someone moving to Donegal would probably have some difficulty with permissions in West Cork, for example.

Current permissions are about 1.5 hours from Cork City. I was just worried that i'd have to go knocking farmers doors in County Cork asking to shoot their land.

Long term plan is to apply to Fermoy Rifle Range and invest in a .25-06 but due to move cash is tight at the moment so just want to make sure i'll be able to go for bunnies in the mean time.

Thats a fair point. I was worried over meetin a grumpy FO who would make life hard, but I should be sound on it now.

    Thanks a million.
