Just got my results and after my student number it says: Re-ex MathStat. Does that mean I must sit a supplemental exam? If so, will the exams office get in contact with us to organise a supplemental or do we have to contact them or our tutor?

Yeah unfortunately that means you have to repeat maths and stats. You're automatically registered for the supplemental so you don't have to do anything except study and pass the repeat exam. A timetable is released sometime around August I think.

You can contact your tutor if you want to look at your exam script or if you want to appeal the result.

    Ya I got Re:ec Math/Stat and Economics :(

You know that thing that if you get under 30% in 2 subjects or more you have to repeat everything? Well how will you find out your actual percentage?

Think we get a result sheet posted out to us but I could be wrong.

Also, according to BESS Exam Regs: "Students in the Freshman years must repeat only those subjects in which they failed,
provided there are not more than two grades of F2, in which case the student must repeat in all papers." So if you're a fresher BESS student, it looks like you'll only have to repeat the two you've failed.

It'll say Re-ex : All if you have to repeat everything so unless you see that don't worry. If it just says Re-ex : MathsStats, Economics then you only have to repeat those two subjects.
Breakdown is sent out in the post, it was last year anyway, you should have it within a day or two if you're living in Ireland.

hey I got the results for each of the tests I did for SFTP. It said I got 35 and 37 in 2 subjects but on the main site where it says the overall grade you got for the year it doesn't say I have to do any repeats. I got a 2 2 overall. I know your able to get away with one fail as long as its at least 35 but I got two. Am I wrong or whats the story. I'm not sure if I should tell the department or not. Thanks

If you want to get someone else's advice who isn't a member of the academic staff chat to Hugh in the Students' Union (Education Officer) - House 6, 1st Floor.

13 To gain a pass in the examinations of the Freshman years, students must pass in both
mathematics and physics. The overall result for the year will be an appropriately weighted
average of the grades in mathematics and physics.
Results for examinations and assessments are published according to the following grades:
    I = 70-100, II1 = 60-69, II2 = 50-59, III = 40-49, F1 = 30-39, F2 = 0-29. In order to pass, a mark of at
least 40 per cent is required.
To gain a pass in mathematics in the examinations of the Freshman years, students must
attain a mark of at least 35 per cent in each mathematics course, and must also attain an overall
mathematics mark of at least 40 per cent. Junior and Senior Freshman students who have failed
in mathematics at the annual examination must take a supplemental examination in mathematics,
sitting papers set on each of the mathematics courses in which they have failed; those who have
failed in physics at the annual examination must take a supplemental examination in physics.
These supplemental examinations are held at the beginning of Michaelmas term. There are no
supplemental examinations in the Sophister years.

yeah go chat with hugh if your not sure, but my initial reaction was those results are grand! the post above suggests you satisfy the criteria anyway but we were told that you can compensate one 30% 'fail' or two 35% scores

Is there a fee for the supplementals??

Edit: Nevermind, found it. No fees :)

The rules are as set out in the Calendar. (See post by Dónal.)

    To check:

Is your average in Physics over 40%?
Is your average in Maths over 40%?
Are all your maths results at least 35%?

If you satisfy all three of the above then you have passed SF TP. Criteria vary from course to course. Whatever gamma23 was told is not applicable to TP.
Next year things will be stricter: there will be a limit on the number of failing maths modules (as the used to be until a few years ago).
