if one was to copy your application folder to a cd and burn it

then reinstall or whatever to snow leopard or leopard again - could i copy the files back into that new application folder on the new system

    would those apps work?

    thanks

    Some would, some won't.
Those ones that store all but their preferences in the application bundle will work without a problem.
It's better if you use a flash drive or external HDD instead of a CD. (Under certain circumstances this can mess up the permissions)

    Just some more thoughts:

If you copy the whole app folder then be careful never to overwrite the Apple supplied apps with the older version you saved as you copy them back.
Also, apps that come with an installer generally don't tolerate the copy method that well as they tend to store various components elsewhere on the filesystem.

coolio - i didnt transfer any of the bundled apple apps or the calc and stickies etc

wasting space and time really as they will come with any reinstall or upgrade etc

    thanks!
