Hoping to compile some demo's and haven't got a clue what I need to start me off. I see a lot of people seem to singing into a microphone with a circular device over the mic for a purer sound? Just looking to sing and add music via computer to my voice. HELP please!!!

K first youll want a computer thats good for recording ! mac's are awesome for new comers as there easy to use an the finished result is quality ! if you have a pc find a program that can record vocals ! logic, adobe audition, garage band (not sure if u can get this for pc) fruity loops, etc etc youll find them on line if you look on forums ! pretty expensive to buy ! theres a basic free program called AUDACITY it will record your voice but is as basic as it comes (pretty easy to use also).

After that your gonna obviously need a MICROPHONE ! id recommend a shure sm58 for starting off ! there indestructible an professional standard ! they retail around 100 euro. anyway if you have a mic an a recording program on your pc youll be ready to go ! the thing you talk about over the mic is called a POP SHIELD an retail for around 15 euro roughly !

    Oh P.S
Alot of mics require something called PHANTOM POWER this connects the mic to your pc ! you mite wanna look into this piece of kit also !

    Hope this helps !

Head over to the music production forum, theres a big, long sticky there all for beginners. After that try the Sound on Sound forums, theres a beginners section there too and you'll pick up most of what you need to know.
