    Hi all,

Theres been a weird humming/rubbing noise coming from behind glovebox in my Ibiza recently. It happens when the ignition is turned on but goes away in about 5 seconds. Any ideas what this may be. Its just that i've spent a sh!t load of money fixin stuff thats gone wrong before, so I really don't want another mechanic ripping me off.

    Anything helpful would be great

I would have said fuel pump, but its behind your glovebox. Check fluid levels water, coolant, oil. Maybe theres some debri around the air filter. How is the car driving any hesitation and hows the idle?

Me too (or something related, because the pump is probably in the tank at the back). I have a Cordoba (essentially the same car), and when the ignition is initally turned (before further turning to fire up the cylinders), there is a noise which I believe is due the fuel pump priming out the fuel line. Lasts 2 or 3 seconds. Noise *appears* to be coming from front left of car (maybe it's a relay/switch/valve at the front allowing fuel get to the engine compartment).

Thanks for that, it was feeling a little sluggish lately now at least I can narrow it down a bit more. Will be bringing it in to get checked after all - Engine light now showing. :( Which only means one thing... €€€€
