Securing items on site

We started a build recently and had some items stolen from the site over the weekend. Nothing major as we don't have much on site yet, but we're wary now that they - whoever took it - will be watching and waiting until we get other, more expensive stuff delivered and then come back for more.

It's on a busy enough road where there would be traffic coming and going and other houses all around but that's no deterrent apparently. The gate is kept locked and they didn't break the lock so they must have just passed the stuff over the wall. It's obviously not practical to bring everything on and off site every evening and morning, so what have any of you done, or what do you do? We were looking into a shed but sure they can break a lock on that just as easily so not sure if there is maybe a better solution?

    Thanks.

Try and get your hands on an old shipping container. They can be locked up pretty securely. Have one at home which i use as my garden shed/storage. Very useful and can hold a lot of stuff.

2nd the shipping container. Can hold everything that you need to build with. Common places to store stuff (like the chimney for hammer & nails) are known, and will be amongst the first places to be looked at.

You'll find a few on the Buy & Sell. I was considering this option aswell but in the end I didn't bother with it. I'd don't live close enough to my site to open it up each morning and lock it each night. Thankfully nothing "lost" yet!

Only get a container that has been modifiyed so the lock is protected from being smashed off.

    +1
This will take the form of a steel housing over the shackle location securing the two doors.

However, getting a shutter lock for this proved difficult for me, so it was a long u shaped lock used instead.
Also use a chain and padlock on the outside also for even further protection.

However, those who want in will get in no matter what.

You won't be able to continue removing all your tools from site every day - and every time you need to pop out for an hour.
I had to do it for the first few weeks on site, and it became a major pain. especially when you are working upstairs on in attic. And then there's the generator!
So a half container is perfect, and can be kept on site post build and used as a secure lock up for outdoor tools, lawnmowers etc.
I'm going to keep mine for the above purposes, but also will place my oil tank in it, for security purposes.

Just got a quote there for a 20ft container delivered to Cork from www.bridgecontainers.com - send them an email. They are very quick to respond!

Get the shipping container and get an alarm specialist to do a nixer on a battery alary where it sends you a message when its tampered with. Tell him you will give him the house alarm job when the house is finished,

i would put up camera like the ones farmers use for calving cows they can send a remote signal to a nearby Tv , or if you can get power on site put in recording camera apporox Euro 1000.00 to buy , they will save you a fortune if stuff is stolen & they can record for eith 7 or 30 days .
I did it when I was building as a 40 ft container was broken into a month after it arrived on site ( the cameras went up afterwards)
