I bought a couple of coins on ebay over the past week, and had bids on other coins that were outbid but i received 3 "you have a second choice offer" messages saying the buyer pulled out etc etc

I've bought over 150 items from ebay and have never had this happen before, are coin sellers bidding on their own coins?

    I never noticed it -

bought a couple of sets online .... finland 1999 sets (not even sure where I put it) , I have the original starters pack (Ireland) .... I'm not really a collector ...just bought it on impulse ..... also have an american 2dollar note and a couple of £2 coins from England.

    I sell coins on ebay
sometimes the winning bidder decides for some reason that they dont want the coin any more and dont want to complete the transaction (which is really anoying) then ill make a second chance offer. also if i have two coins the exact same ill offer it to the under bidder

Because sellers can no longer leave negative feedback for buyers and a whole host of new anti small seller policies brought in by CEO John Donahoe, theres more and more time wasting non paying bidders. So it's not unusual for these items to be offered to the underbidders. Also most coin sellers would have multiple of the same items. Shill bidding does indeed go on and I've seen it dozens of times but it's up to you to put a correct value on the item you're bidding for.

It's a good time to buy now for a few reasons:

eBay has gone to the dogs, their new search is geared towards favouring larger sellers so a lot of buyers have been put off by not being able to find what they're looking for and by being spammed with ads for cr@p they never asked for. Also most small sellers that ebay ran off the site were regular buyers too so as a result their traffic is way down and so are their shares. Add this to the fact that theres a global recession and that it's Summer time and you'll find the prices have never been so cheap there.

Fighting Irish: You'd be better off buying complete date runs and sets of coins rather than picking out a few here and there from different sellers. That way you'll save a fortune on postage. It's different if you had near complete sets but you don't have many and theres a hell of a lot to collect of decimal and predecimal alone.
