i'm doing my first sprint tri in Ballina in 2 weeks. cycle and run should be alright (no world records) but my swimmin is feckin brutal. i think i'll manage it alright but i want to put a bit of effort into it for the next time.

i've had a few lessons but didnt think they were great. is there anywhere in the country that does something like the Total Immersion type training that you can get in the u.k.

    cheers

You will find a small quantity (6-8?) of threads touching on Total Immersion by doing a search. Have a look, some may be of interest to you.

I was looking for similar classes last year, and after talking to few people, i got the feeling that Total Immersion had already somehow lived its life. Few swim coaches won't go near it.
I read a TI book and watched video with the idea of learning this swimming style. But impatience kicked in and decided to swim as i swim, though i have kept few elements:
    - almost do not kick
    - no splash and no bubbles
    - focus on long reach.

Coming back to your question, i don't think there are any. Bit if there were, i don't think you should go near them now as your tri is in 2 weeks. TI style would take month to master. Instead, a few one-to-one lessons would go a long way.

    Total immersion is overrated.

Get good quality swim coaching and spend hours in the pool. No quick fix unfortunately.

Agree that TI is overrated but still useful for someone with the starting point of "brutal". Where are you based OP, we might be able to suggest the best swim coaches in the area.

sorry for jumping on to your post Leana but after a disaster of a swim in Kilkee (37mins) I really need a swim coach....can anyone recommend a good swim coach based in Kildare but i am willing to travel for some decent 1-2-1 coaching!

    Cheers.

Might be worth asking in the Swimming forum?

really need someone with an open water mindset.

Can't recommend anyone in kildare but I know some serious coaches are planning open water clinics after the summer.

Don't worry too much about the swim in Ballina leana. It's a downstream swim and is usually over before you know it. Not sure where you are based, but if you are in the Ballina area you could join the tri club. As far as I know they have swim coaches.

As tunney points out, get some lessons and put in the hours. No easy way out. there is a thread relating to a TI course that happened in Dublin before Christmas. It's in the swimming forum.

What kind of open water clinics tunney? Any in Cork? Or recommendations of a good coach for one to one lessons anyone?
