    Greetings :D

Asking this on behalf of the gf! She was at a Mac make up party tonight and picked up a number of brushes and make up palette and it came to 43 euro. Now I bought her a complete set of brushes in BT's for Christmas and the cost me a few quid!

The people running the party seemed legit and we able to accept orders so it wasn't coming off the back of a truck ;)

Anyone else been to one of these?

Supposed to be going to one on Friday, I'll be happy if I get a few bargains like that!

That sounds very dodge, in no way are they legit if she got a few brushes and pallettes for just E43 - some of the brushes are over E40 each!

No way is that legit, go into MAC and ask even.

Even if they're not mac, it would be hard to get good quality brushes/eyeshadow for that price. I bought a tesco brand powder brush the other day and it was €11!!!

Sounds extremely dodgy. I am not aware of Mac selling their products like this. It wouldn't strike me as their style. The price is far too cheap. There is a lot of fake Mac products, particularly eyeshadows and brushes coming in from the Far East. I imagine that's what she's got.

Sounds like she got scammed, sorry.

    I'd be very sceptical...

    + 1

That seems much too cheap! A friend of mine came back from thailand with loads of MAC stuff and she didn't realize they were fake!
I have never heard of MAC having makeup parties either, give them a ring and ask if they know of it, if not they may be able to warn their customers about the scam so other people aren't caught!

I got scammed with a similar make-up "offer" at school, cost €40 for a make up basket thing with a crap mascara (forget what "top end brand" is supposedly was but it messed up my eyes and I couldn't wear my contacts for a month), an eyeshadow that turned out to be one given away on Benefit counters for FREE, a Smashbox blusher that no Smashboz artist would be caught dead using and finally a very dodgy "mac" (cough cough) foundation that contained both talc and bismuth in large quantities and caused my face to look as though it was burnt! NEVER AGAIN!!
So be very wary! Also we ordered our usual Mac colours but when the make up arrived mine was bright orange and my friends was white even though we had both ordered NC15 and both bottles said NC15.......! disaster!

So did she use any of the stuff and was it any use??

I bought a MAC palette for a bargain from the far east a couple of years ago and then looked into it....yeah it was fake BUT I have to say the quality of the eyeshadow and the level of pigment was amazing...basically equal to MAC. Now I felt guilty about it being a 'fake' but at least I didn't totally waste my money!!

It was a palette of 12 eyeshadows but MAC never made a 12 palette and I also learned (wow the internet is helpful :p ) that MAC never made single pot eyeshadows with a mirror and brush in the bottom!! So if someone tries to sell you a 12 palette or single ones with a compartment at the bottom you know it's not MAC!

    Is this your palette? http://www.brush111.com/product_10.html
Some nice things on that site though, like how bad can brushes be?

I have never heard of MAC parties, as someone else said it's not their style. They're not AVON. How did your gf hear about them? Definitely dodgy ;-) they're either stolen or fake I'd say ;-) but if she's happy with them....you don't have a problem :)

Through friends. We compared the stuf to the brushes I bought for her in BT's and if they are fakes, they are top quality fakes.

I was invited to a Mac party about a month ago. Went for the craic. Got foundation, lip gloss eyeshawow for 35 quid! The foundation i get in mac costs 38 quid, got it at party for €20. Decided to host my own party last week, whatever is sold the host gets 10%. Got the make up brushes, they are brill, exact same as Mac ones. Just shows you the mark up in BT'S its a disgrace!! Asked the girls where they got the stuff and they sent the buy it in from US. The stuff is great, only thing they don't selll is bronzer because they said it doesnt travel great (breaking up during travel).

Mac isn't that cheap in America. It's almost certainly fake. Please don't try to sell these to other people.

I don't sell these products. I allowed them to sell this in my house. I have used the make up for weeks and its great. That's just my experience of the products. The way things are at the moment i am chuffed that i got make up for that price as there is no way i could afford the BT's prices.

But you bought fake stuff so its hardly worth the same as real Mac.God only knows whats in it,or if its even been tested ???
You would have been better off buying a cheap brand like rimmel, at least you know what you are getting. But then again you probably only want people to think you are using the real stuff.

Ah ye have me sussed i just want people to think i'm buying Mac. It's nothing got to do with the quality of the brushes of the fact that the eyeshadow colours are much nicer. What a great judge of character you are to be able to tell what a person thinks when you've never met them.
I'm delighted with my purchases end of story!

Have a look at this forum here, it details how to find out if you have a fake MAC product or not.

MAC bought in the states is cheaper than here though, even in Dublin Airport it's cheaper, so there could be some truth in it.

There might be some truth to that - I fly a lot for work and have about 15 pots of MAC eyeshadow - so I usually bring 5-8 with me for variety. But at least 4 of them have disintegrated while flying. And it's not due to getting knocked around - it always seems to happen while flying. It such a waste because the powder just falls away.

I was at a certain market a few weeks ago and there was a girl selling MAC, Bobbi Brown, Dior, Chanel & Gosh make up. I was a little sceptical at first cos I figured they might not be genuine but she had testers of every single thing she was selling and I was able to try out stuff before I bought.

I bought a MAC Eyeshadow, a Diorshow mascara and a MAC lipgloss. I swear the eyeshadow is one of the best ones Ive ever had, the mascara too. The lipgloss was sh1t though!

I didnt care that the might have been fake. The quality was good and the price was exactly half, sometimes a bit more, than the price in the shops. I managed to research online where the girl got them too. It took me AGES! If the quality is good and the price is small, whats the problem??

Because you don't know what you're getting. The quality may be awful, it probably hasn't been tested, you could get a horrible allergic reaction. The eyeshadow could be grainy and scratch your eyeball. Who knows what the ingredients are.

As I said, she had testers of everything so I tried them out, as ALL girls do before they buy any make up. The quality of everything, bar the lipgloss, was fantastic and I would definately buy again.

It's all well and good pointing out that they might be fakes but maybe they "fell off the back of a truck". Aren't a lot of the handbags sold on Canal St. real but stolen? And also, if the hosts of these parties were buying in serious bulk then they'd be discounted more and able to sell the stock on cheaper while still making a mark up. I wouldn't be so quick to jump to the conclusion that it's fake because it's a lot cheaper, like, BT's make a HUGE mark up on the stuff they sell. A very successful boutique owner once told me that if she dropped the price of her clothes, her customers wouldn't buy them because they'd think the quality was compromised, fact. People can be snobby.

Yes, they could be genuine but off the back of a truck. I just looked at the packaging of the eyeshadow I got and its all exactly the same as a MAC one. I dunno, either way I loved what I got and I'd deffo get more! The website I found has a price list of everything so I'll probably order from there too!

Fake Mac is all over ebay and other such websites which is why I'm so suspicious. Just google it and you'll find hundreds of websites. Can I ask, what are the names of the shades you are being sold?

Another good link here, extremely long though http://reviews.ebay.com/MAC-COSMETICS-HOW-TO-SPOT-FAKES-by-EXPERIENCED-SELLER_W0QQugidZ10000000001901026

It's definitely fake. That's also the problem with eBay, it's unreliable and full of fake crap.

Okay they're fake but are they any good?

Realistically, because you are dealing with such sensitive products that are used on your skin and eyes etc, I think the best thing anyone who wants good value makeup can do, is buy an established brand over the net which has the same high standards Mac makeup has and at least then you know what you are getting, buying all this fake crap, yes it may work, but it only takes one person to have an allergic skin reaction or something similar, not to mention you're supporting an illegal way of life in most cases. You're contributing to the same scumbags who sell drugs/rob houses etc and you have no idea if these products were tested on animals or vietnamese childred - you don't know !

You may not think it's a big deal but if you think about the consequences of buying crap like that, there are an awful lot of unanswered questions re: the product and your own skin.

Hi there - I already wrote this but lost it so sorry if it appears twice :o I bought some eyeshadows and brushes from ebay and although the colours were brilliant they left a stain on the eyelid after I took it off. I am a make-up artist and there is no way I would risk it on a client - you never know what's in them. Also, the brushes fell apart when I washed them. Luckily they were cheap.

Make-up artists get 30% discount from MAC in Ireland so there is no way they could be selling genuine products at the prices stated in the first post. We are not allowed to sell MAC products anyway so I guess everything is pointing to Fake Mac here ;)

Off the topic but New Look are selling Stargazer make-up - I've used their loose pigments and they are really good (and cheap too).
