I can't post a new thread in the Satellite forum and wonder if there is something simple I need to do? Haven't posted before on Boards - well I think I haven't anyway.

Your account is set to awaiting activation email. Check your inbox/spambox for the activation email. It could be that you forgot your password at some point and needed it reset or something. After activating you can post away fine.
