Im after a ford focus now, I have my eyes on one, 02 1.4 litre.
The cheapest quote I can get is 3000+ for comprehensive. Will third party cover me if i hit someone? Will my car be covered?

Im 20 and have a provisional license for over a year. This will be my first car.
Quinn are way over priced and I thought there the cheapest:confused:
    Any real cheap places?
    cheers.

Third party cover - you're covered for damages to all third partys but not yourself or your car
TPFT - third party but you're also covered for theft + fire of your vehicle
Comp - TPFT + your vehicle is also covered

All subject to various policy conditions of course.

    ****

The only way to get cheap insurance is to ask everyone. Get as many quotes as you can.

    Thanks for the quick replie.
I was just wondering why do they ask you for your occupation? Im an apprentise mechanic, what if I say im a priest or a doctor, can that lower the insurance?

They ask for your occupation to build up your risk profile.

Don't give them a false occupation as this can null/void your policy down the line if discovered (they will have to pay out any third partys but your car won't be covered and depending on your financial position they may seek to recover the money back from you).

I can't really say which profiles give higher risks because I don't know. I'd GUESS that housewife is low (only out in it occasionally) while a doctor might be high (going to / from work more often at odd hours).

Can insurance quotes on certain days be different?
I remember a few months a go getting quotes about 1900 for the same details.

Those sites are as close to a comparison site we have in Ireland afaik.

They change their rates a lot I've found, and it can make a massive difference whether you are 24 or 25 for example.

Anyone working in the motor trade will unfortunately get their premium loaded it seems. Get yourself a full licence asap. It should drop your premium by about 35%. I couldn't afford to insure my own car until I had a full licence, and that was back when there were waiting lists of up to a year!

Hibernian wouldnt quote me until I had both a full license AND 3 years NCB. And even then their offer was more than double the Q-D renewal!

www.bestquote.ie is what I've found best. Would suggest getting an almost worthless car (<€500) and insuring 3rd party only for a while though, build up your NCB. Would easily save yourself the cost of the car in a year of lower insurance. Plenty of decent enough cars around for very low money these days, if you're not too fussed about appearance or performance.

Try axa, they are very good for first timers, and young drivers.

Quinn-direct is good for people with alot of ncb and everyday bangers.

    123.ie balanced for performance cars

get a full license m8, it will help you alot.

Now you are really unconfident to drive your car m8, that you need fully comp. insurance?

90% of accsidents are not recorded, poeple dont like to ring insurance companies and claim. You claim once and get those 3-4k for your written of car, but then you will be paying thousands for insurance, just becouse you lost NCBs and got a claim...

I dont drive very expencive car, its value only 6-7k ( after ressetion), and i have only TFT.

And i go for TFT now for third year aswell.

I disagree with this advice. Accidents happen, they're accidents. You can't plan for them. No matter how good a driver you are you can make a mistake.

Personally I think if your car is worth anything up to about €1500/€2000 then I'd probably go with the TPFT argument but over that then I'd start to look at comp.

I know if I had a car worth €6000 I'd definitely have COMP on it. I couldn't afford to replace it just like that.

you must be joking with axa, right?

they quote for 1.6 octavia 2000 was e4,700 when I went there 2,5 years ago. and I was 27 then, it was my first car

then I got quote from quinn at e1700

as for the answer: OP go to some brick and mortar insurance brokers, there's plenty of them everywhere

thats why i asked first, how confident driver he is. If someone will hit you, theyr insurance will repair your car. And if you are agood driver, you wount hit ather cars, and write of your own.

Claiming, and getting car fixed once for 1.5k and then pay 1k extra every year just becouse you have claim and nulled your ncbs is not best option in mine opinion.

Thought If i had a 08/09 car i would go only for fully comp... Loosing 25k++ is alot more painfull then 4-5k.

But in the end of the day, everyone do theyr own way m8 ;)

    well example:

Mine first insurance on 406 1.8
    quin-direct = 3.8k eu
    axa =1.8k eu

    After first year:

    Quin-direct = 1.4keu
    axa =1.6k eu

Just every single insurance company have theyr speciality m8. Now i am not a fan of bouth. I am buying an mx5 and quinn-direct says: you must be 30 years old, axa says: 25 years. 123.ie says: 1.1k eu...

    Go figure :D

I am a very risk adverse kind of guy so I would always go for comp. But this depends on how often you want to use the car and the value of your car. If it's a cheap one, you maybe won't need comp. But I can't understand why insurance is so expensive here, if you compare German or US car insurance you'll see that these could be much cheaper. Although I also heard that service is not always the best in these countries. A cheap price is fine when nothing happens but in case of an accident it may fall back on you.
