this has been the one thing that has really pissed me off about giggin. I've tried pedals, Pod XT Live, Boss ME 50, Pandora (smaller unit) and none of them are solution

Anyone got any suggestions? thinking of dumping the multi fx and going back to pedals

    The Daddy ....

    TC Guitar System ....

No distortions or amp sims but 4 programmable loops and an amp chan switcher.

Dont think that ones gonna work Paul, I have the effects unit going straight through the PA, so I need the amp sim. Also needs distortion for some of the songs. Had anybody got the Pandora PX5, was thinking about this.

Why don't you use an amp?

The G system is awesome but no point in gigging small places the guy vomiting in toilet wont notice that subtle delay on the left you added just for extra fun :)

    You Need:

    Marshall JMP1
    Sansamp PSA1
    Engl Preamp
    Mesa Rectifier Recording Preamp

any of the above, a valve setup with speaker sim output...

Pods are toys, Boss ME is pointless too all crappy synthetic distortions and tones....the POD has an uncontrollable bottom end thats just mush even if you roll off on desk its still OTT !

I use a JMP1 Live as a preamp set to a nice clean sound the whole time, but I have a Keeley tube scremer, Boss DS1, Tuner etc.. in the front end....

are you sorted FX wise? if not just link a second rack unit like a g-major or g-force by tc or if money is to be thought about an older rocktron intellifex / expression the JMP can control that too without any hassle at all making both units switch at same time with one click via midi.

The Midi mapping on the JMP is sooooooooooo easy and pretty simple to get a sound.

What rig are you running through?

I have a Yamaha EMX 512C, and two 300w Alcon speakers. Using a yamaha pacifica currently with POD XT LIVE (using the amp simulator). I simply dont have the space to use a guitar amp where I am playing, and get asked to play a lot of local family parties, so I'm not likely to be moving to big arenas any time soon.

So what sort of budget do you have to sort the issue ?

Well im afraid its not going to stop at the preamp side, the speakers arnt gonna be the cleanest sounding either.... and theres not alot of scope desk / eq wise.

Next question what are you looking to achieve?

digitech gnx4 direct to pa .

to answer the questions above, I want something really simple. Maybe 5 patches and a switch.

There's too much in the POD XT Live and it very big on the floor. I would spend up to 400 I spose, depending on how much I could get for the XT Live.

I'll check out the GNX4 but I would think it's similar to what I have already from what I know of it.

the best multifx is the digitech gsp1101, i just use it through a basic enough marshall half stack, or into my edirol interface if im recording, and it sounds fantastic, good enough for judas priest, good enough for me!
