I know it doesn't have a hope of winning but this is a great album.

    A couple of opinions:

    http://www.theshrubbery.com/0299/music1.html

and below, the reviewer gives it a 4/5 don't know why the score shows as 3/5

would love if I could post a stream of it but don't know any legal ones.

I decided I'd give Bowie leeway last week as he was an "alternative" artist of sorts at the time of Ziggy, but Alice in Chains, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy (and I love that album) and Madness... sorry, no. They are not alternative/indie.

Kind of expected that my Alice in Chains nomination was going to be knocked back. I would have classified Afghan Whigs as grunge but they got nominated last week so thought it was worth a shot. Can i nominate Deus "Pocket Revolution" instead?

1965 is my least favourite of the Afghan Whigs albums, but I'll give it the vote because of the brilliant Gentlemen and Black Love albums and their excellent live show. Was p***ed off to miss Greg Dulli in Galway last year.

+1 for dEUS - Pocket Revolution nomination

Well you are the mod. But a band who have not released new material in over 20 years, and are a ska band to boot (no pun intended) are hardly mainstream. And it is a fab album! Can I appeal your verdict? :)

'hardly mainstream' is not the same thing as 'alternative/indie'. The line can be blurry sometimes though

Well my being a mod doesn't have anything to do with it - it's just simply that Madness are not alternative/indie in terms of their genre. In fairness, I have to disagree with your "hardly mainstream" comment. Madness?! There was no getting away from them in the first half of the 80s! :)
ND 1978 is spot-on. A jazz-metal infusion band isn't mainstream either but they wouldn't belong here.

deisedude, Alice In Chains are suited to Rock & Metal. I would totally consider Afghan Whigs alternative/indie.
And I'm not so sure about Air either... they're more electronica.

I think in the earlier years Afghan Whigs were more grunge than anything else. Being signed to Sub pop in the early 1990's because they had a similar sound to that of the Seattle bands would indicate this. Granted like Pearl Jam their music changed over time so in essence we are both right!:D

I love having 1965 on before I go out, it always gets the room in the mood for partying, maybe thats why I love it so much and have listened to it so much more than any other of their albums.

I haven't listened to Gentlemen in a while, save 'My Curse' which I am trying to do a version of, probably cause I listened to it so so many times when it came out.
