Easiest thing to check would be the switch I'd imagine.

I've been behind a brand new Mondeo and an 06 (iirc) focus in the last couple of weeks with all thier brake lights stuck on. It gets annoying fairly quick.:)

    Might be a relay?

is most likely the switch... you prob wont find that the pedal is loose and resting on it either... just get a switch from a crashed one n try it.

Ive heard this happen with stolen motors aswell, when theyre hotwired i think. Fault could be complicated to find though!

My old Mondeo did this once. I was told that the lights are all in series. When one connection shorts out then all the brake lights can come on constantly.

Someone correct me if I am wrong. I would have thought that a short would have either taken out one bulb or all the bulbs and not leave them on, but that was the explanation I was given.

Your getting a short to the chassis which is negativly charged and switching the lights on as they think they are being earthed correctly.

the switch is always depressed when not braking, and when you push the pedal the pressure is taken off the switch. the brake lights only stay on when the head lights are on, not during the day with them off so prob is a short somewhere alright
