hi we've a new house with a new kitchen which is country style, cream with solid walnut tops. prob is we have a large (3m) bay window that will need some curtains or blinds and i'm not sure what to put there. we have a breakfast table inside the bay and we're in the country looking onto a forrest so no need for these to be closed ever just need to finsh off the look around the window really.

afraid the pics aren't great due to being dark and the cfl bulbs being rubbish for light but you get the gist hopefully of the size of the window and layout of the room

    any ideas

Id say to buy some cheap eye-let curtains to put over the window
Leave them there for afew months and see how you get on
If you like them - get some nice curtains in and proper fitter to make use of full bay window
    If not get blinds

Once you put something up you will know then, wether you like it or not
The kitchen is FAB but agree it needs abit of 'dressing' or soft touches

thank you kindly might be a good idea. it had just been fitted that night there so it haas been seeing some improvements since, lights etc.

still unsure about what way to dress the window, it needs to be finished with something but deff doesn't need to be functional nor do i want it to impede any views etc.

    thanks

I love your kitchen!! It's looks grand indeed. You must be very pleased.
Personally I'd go with Roman Blinds, for that classic clean cut look.
Try the website http://www.b4i.ie/roman-blinds-arena-ire.html for ideas. They will send you 5 free fabric swatches. Whatever fabric you choose, take your time in deciding as you could use a '3rd' colour in the room and highlight it in accessories etc. I can see it's a large window and you mentioned it's private, so i wouldn't bother putting anything up there till you decide what's best permanently. There are some amazing fabrics out there to lift that whole space. Best of luck, post us a pic when your done!

thank you i really appreciate the help. thats right its completely private so whatever we put there is purely decoration and dressing. the window looks onto our back garden which is about an acre and the whole site is surrounded by forest on all sides so we won't need to protect our privacy. cheers

I'd say get curtains. The folded design of roman blinds means that there can be as much as 6 inches of fabric hanging down at all times. This may not sound like a lot but it does mean you'll be blocking part of your windows. I wouldn't get the roller blinds either for the same reason - they'll either be completely rolled up, in which case they won't be very decorative, or they'll be partially unrolled so they look dressier, but they'll be blocking part of your window. A lot of people don't mind this, at the end of the day it's personal taste, I just think it'd be a waste of a view.

My suggestion would be to put curtains around the inside of the bay. If you're on a tight budget the cheaper way to do it is to bend a track around it and put up pleated curtains. If you've a bit more money to spend it'd put up a bay pole (you can get these ready-made, we sell 'em in Harry Corry but I'm sure you can get them in other shops too). Then you've a choice of getting one made for pleated curtains or one for eyelets (the ones with rings set into the curtain). For myself I'd go for the eyelets as you can pull them back into a smaller space, so you get the effect of curtains without blocking your view.

Have a wander around a few shops and see what's available that you like, and good luck!
