    Guys,

Apologies if this has been posted already but I've searched everywhere and can't find an answer to work for me.

What is the apn setting for 3 Ireland to allow my unlocked iPhone 3G to access the internet.

I've entered 3Ireland.ie into the APN settings as someone in another post advised but no luck.

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

I think that three block all unknown IMEI numbers form access to there planet three, you will need to ring up the customer service and have them add the imei number.

Thanks for that but that still does not seem to work.
    My settings are as follows:
    APN: 3ireland.ie
    Username: none
    Password none

I didn't know whether 'none' was the actual password/username or did it mean don't put anything in there but I've done all the different permutations and still it does not work. I dont really want to ring three customer service cos i'll be there all day. I'm probably doing something stupid but its doing my head in. I'm just wondering is there somewhere else that all the other info like network type, proxy address etc can be put in as all i can see is the above settings ie APN username and password

    Thankls

make sure you have data roaming Disabled. For some reason when its enabled the APN does not work on Three.

The password should be blank, don't write in none. Have you 3G turned on under setting in the phone and are you sure your on 3's 3G signal, the vodafone one might appear as 3G, do a manual network serarch and swith 3G's, there's an app you can download through cynthia that will let you manually change the operator name, i.e you can set vodafone as vodafone so you'll know your on 2G...
Your setting are right your just locked onto the wrong signal I think, I had the same problem at the start..

Thank you so much. It worked a treat. When I searched for the carrier there were two options for three (3) and 3(3G) and obviously i had the first one ticked.

Living here in Belfast, my data roaming is always set to on with my 3 Ireland dataSIM inserted. Works a treat, and for tethering too.

Not the case at all, ignore this advice.

    hey

i moved from vodafone to 3 for the 1gig 10 euro deal on pre-pay but i find the service pretty bad live in Dublin, cant get a 3g signal as often as i did with vodafone but its ok.
the problem is if i dont have a 3g connection i have no connection at all on the iphone no gprs is this normail with 3?

    thanks

that's correct, you can't use data when roaming on vodaone, it sucks...

iphone is crap for signal comapred to a nokia, I found it useless for holding on to signal...hence i don't have one any more...

Hi, just APN fill in (above) and leave Username and password blank.
I noticed that when outside 3G coverage can't connect, otherwise everything ok.

Hi, noticed this as well. When you're outside 3's coverage you're "roaming" on Vodafone, which is strange as Vodafone has better coverage than 3. Try turn on "Allow roaming data" in network settings and see what happens.

The APN is correct, but you must be on 3's own network. Try allow roaming data in settings.

so have you got connection (GPRS) when you dont have a 3g signal? if so is the cost included in your data pack? im quite happy with 3 but having no connection at all when not on 3G is a real killer and am thinking about changing back to vodadone now.

    it is included.

if there is no 3G, you need to go into Settings>Carrier> (you will see two networks ( "3(3G)" if 3g is available, "3" if not) then change it to "3".. so it will connect to GPRS and to normal GSM service...

the 3G on/off switch simply doesn't work properly on the 3 network, at least not for me.

    Hi,

i have a 3g iphone running on a prepaid 3 sim card ( €10 per month data plan ) and works very well but some web pages come up with error. For example on the iphone when I try to access a torrent search engine like www.torrentz.com it comes up with web page is unavailable to view ( http://mobile.3ireland.ie/pc/Live/pcreator/live/mwsun ) . See attached/below image screen shot.

Heres the strange bit, i can access this web page from my home wifi but not over 3's network 3G newtork ( thinking its 3 blocking websites ) . So i went into the 3 store and explain to the guy the problem, i was thinking 3 were banning certain websites but 2 workers in the 3 store used their own phones ( one was sony erricson other was Nokia I think ) and both their phones could access the website no problem. Indicating to me that 3 do not block some websites. I am pretty sure these guys were using 3 prepaid sim cards also as opposed to 3 bill pay, but deffo 3 network. Do i have to ring three.ie and register my iphone IEMI number and age or something?

    Anyone any thoughts?

I think the filter more stuff on pre-pay as against post pay.

The phones in the shop were probably bill mobiles.

yes, if you are not in 3G area you can't connect, (even with a 3 mobile) i have a 3 LG RENOIR and its does not connect outside a 3G area.

sorry about dragging up this tread again but i was wondering if anyone else is still having problems connecting to 3 for data?

I up graded to 3.0 when redsnow came out before that i didn't have a problem and after up grading i didn't put in the APN until about 2 weeks ago but haven't been able to get any data at all. i'm on 3pay with a gig data pack.

tired all of the above, anyone still in the same boat as me? if i dont find a fix soon i'll have to say bye bye to 3 dont realy want to cause i've found them the cheapest network so far.

I have the 1gig pack on 3PAY, works fine, at the top of the iphone screen, beside the "3" logo, can you see a small blue circle or 3G sign?

I have a 3g connection alright on the top left.

the only thing i can think of now that i did that might be causing this was before i tried to get data back working on my phone over 3g after upgrading to 3.0 was try and get tethering to work.

so i went to this website
    www.jellysms.com/blog/enable-internet-tethering-with-your-iphone-in-2-minutes-on-o2-ireland-with-30-gm
and installed the the 3 contract tethering profile (im on 3pay).

on post 26 on that page someone else seems to have the same problem as me.

has anyone else setup tethering on 3pay?

    Hi menuisier,

    I have a 3G iphone on Three prepay with 1Gig ( 10 euro per month ) running with ultrasn0w, tethering, mms & push notification all successfully. It took a few attempts ( actually 5 rebuilds of iphone ) but here is what I did, its the way i got everything working;

    1. Downloaded apples firmware 3.0 through i tunes.
    2. inserted a valid 02 sim card ( one that came with iphone, my iphone was bought in the north and I used a valid sim card from the north, it wasnt the sim card that came with my iphone as i unaware at the time last year that i might need it so i dumped my sim card that came with the iphone. Luckly a friend had a sim card from the north and i used his, but i am thinking any valid o2 sim card will do, maybe even an ATT sim card if iphone was bought in America.
    3. O2 sim card is in the phone during the firmware update. After firmware is upgraded to the iphone with a valid sim card, the phone will activate and you should see 'successfully activated' and a balance of credit left on the o2 prepay sim card.
    3. Once phone is activated successfuly, you need to choose within iTunes ( itunes verison 8.2 ) setup as a new iphone ( setting up as a new Iphone in itunes is the only way i could get push notifcation to work ) If you choose the other option which 'restore a backup' i think it was called you will not get push notifications working, the only way i got push notifications working was setting up as a new iphone. I have yet to understand why this is the case..strange but it worked for me.
    4. then I applied redsnow hack.
    5. then I applied ultrasn0w.
    6. Tethering from jellysms
    7. MMS settings applied ( settings got from this boards.ie ...but here is a screenshot.... http://www.flickr.com/photos/liathroids/3699033376/ ... check the comments below )
    8. Then the usually mobilesubstrate, sbsettings, voipover3g etc... to get the extra features :)
    9. Then did a sychn with itunes to get all my contacts, apps back. But remeber setting up the iphone as new will mean all passwords, camera role photos etc will not be restore... so make sure you take a backup of passwords, camera roll photos etc before doing this. I used diskaid to backup important items.

Also try installing SBsettings from cydia, this will put a handy screen over the dashboard with toggle swtiches, from this sbsettings screen you can see the Data i.p. addresse assigned to you iphone. Once sbsettings is installed, hit safari to load up a web page. Then show the sbsettings screen and watch the Data i.p. address as the web page trys to load up, you should see a valid Three Data i.p. address been assigned something like 10.193.64.xxx

This will indicate that you are getting onto Three's data network. If no valid Data i.p. address is loading then something else is up with firmware/iphone or 3G coverage. I do know sometimes with my 3G coverage takes a few airplane mode's toggles to get the iphone to spot the 3G signal...a little touchy but workable.

    I hope the above helps...

    cheers
    T.
