Going to a match in Capetown

Just wondering, I'm visiting Capetown for the first time in a few weeks and I'd love to get to a match while I'm there.

According to the Western Province website, they're playing the Vodacom Free State Cheetahs in the Newlands Stadium, Cape Town in July.

Is there much craic at the matches in that stadium? Any tips welcome!

Well, it's a Curry Cup game so it won't be a big one and I doubt there will be much craic really...

But Newlands is easy to get to, and the tickets are cheap, so if you're interested why not go along?

Been to a few there and yes, they're great craic. One of the best places to truly experience the locals.:D

You haven't watched much Curry cup on TV have you?

OP, if I was there and had the choice of going to Free State vs Western Province I would jump at it.
They have both performed well recently and from what I have seen, the fans are well up for it.

That part of SA is great. Loads to do and see and yes a rugby match is always a must in SA, don't matter where you are. You should try Castle beer, biltong and boerewors while at the match.

I was going to post a few swear words as that is the locals first language down there, especially the ones with no front teeth but since it's your honeymoon stick to doing honeymoon stuff.

I've been to a number of currie cup games in Newlands actually, I don't need to watch on tv when its 20 mins down the road.

Tickets booked! €8 for 2, on the half way line in the middle tier of the stand :D

Does anyone know if that match (24th July - WP v's Cheetahs) is on Sky Sports??

Whats with the tutu messin? Not even in my worst Guinness riddled stag nights did I partake in a tutu. I'll settle for buyin the local jersey and see can I fit in.

That's the one and the tutu reference was about PDV's comments re Burger. Mind you I think a tutu/jersey/armband combination on the halfway line could be very fetching lol.

Very good, hope you enjoy it! The forecast is for dry but cool weather on Friday, so it should be comfortable, but bring a decent jacket with you. Give yourself plenty of time to get there too if you are going from Cape Town central - rush hour traffic goes that direction, although the rush ends a bit earlier on Fridays.

Feel free to PM if you have any non-rugby Cape Town questions that I can help with.

Just to update, the match was excellent! No rain, plenty of craic and atmosphere and some good photos too. Really enjoyed it!

Thanks for the help getting it sorted!
