Wrong Score entered on computer

    Hi,

On Saturday a friend played in a Strokeplay competition and filled in his scorecard correctly. Now he wasn't in prizes but he got disqualified because he entered the scores wrongly when he was entering his score into the computer. He mixed up a couple of holes and gave hismelf an 90 instead of an 91.

He is a bit annoyed at this but I feel it is his own fault for not making sure he filled in the computer properly. It if was the scorecard that's wrong there is no question about him being disqualified. Should he still be gone when the scorecard is correct but the computer is not?

    What do you think?

I think that if he signed his CARD with the correct score then that score stands, the computer is only an aid for the comp sec. Think about it, if there was a glitch in the software ( and there are many ) that gave him a score that cut his handicap would this stand.

Hmm Im pretty sure its only the card the counts...the computer just makes working it all out easier.

I'd query it as some of those touch screens can get out of whack and/or be a pain in the ass for 4-balls

Absolutely should not have been disqualified!
In my old club we had a mental case on the mens committee. He was squared off to mind the handicaps for three years because if he screwed that up at least someone could rectify it before it became too much of a problem but he broke out two years ago and got involved in Competitions..
First wanted to change the Junior Scratch Cup to 6/11 to outrageous complaints from at least twenty people. But, his moment of infamy came with the disqualifcation of a member for exactly what was reported above by the OP.
This issue went on for ages until a member of the GUI was invited to a meeting to put the thing to bed. A rather ugly time for anyone involved on the Committee because they all got the blame for his incompetence..
The final word was the Card is the item that has to be correct. Date, Handicap Name Scores and Signature. It even answered the issue if the card was signed in the wrong place would it matter. No. As long as the card is signed by the player and the marker. End of..

don't know, he should have checked his score on the screen before clicking accept, bit of a stupid mistake to make

I'm suprised they even checked, I was under the impression that if your ouside of prizes no checks take place

Checks are made, to check for scores in or out of the buffer zone i.e. to adjust handicaps.

Should not have been disqualified once he entered the competition book and his card was completed correctly

The card score is the only one that should count. See rule 6.6 d wrong score for hole. I can only presume they disqualified him as one of the scores on the computer was lower than that of the card. If it was higher I would guess they would not have disqualified him. I think this is the rule they may have used.

Qualifying for caps prize on Sun I forgot my specs, I could only see clearly the points that my marker put down on the card, which added up to 36pts. Because I did not have my specs I asked another person to enter my score in the computer, which he did and he pressed accepted for a score of 37pts. I said this was incorrect, so had to see the comp sec and he told me that as long as the card had the correct score for each hole and was signed by both players, the totals on both card and computer did not matter as it would be checked anyway. I got a phone call later that night to be told that the addition on the card was incorrect that it should be 37 and as each hole was OK and everything on the card with the exception of the addition was OK, then I qualified.
