    Hi,

I have recently moved into Sandyford Village and the broadband cable has not been introduced to that area as of yet.

NTL said they can do nothing and neither can any of the other providers and Sky Digital wont have braodband in Ireland for another few months.

I was wondering what Mobile Broadband people would suggest I was looking at Perlico but heard they were slow and had bad service so clearwire and irish brandband are the only other 2 i can think of.

I would appreciate any info as I need to get the internet set up ASAP in the house for work.

    Kind Regards,

    Lay

Who said Sky Digital would be doing BB here at all?

    November 2006!

Sky have so far found no profitable way to deliver BB in Ireland to the majority of their customers. Unless they bought eircom cheap with the Debt written down to 1/3rd.

Magnet, Smart, BT retail DSL is all reselling eircom copper practically at a loss, even if LLU. Expensive for exchange equipment and backhaul if LLU. Slim to none margin reselling Bitstream. They would not be able to do the kind of deals they offer in UK.

The decent wireless systems would not have quite enough coverage even if Sky bought all of them.

They won't be either, the last thing they want is to resell BB through Eircoms copper.

Well according to the customer rep i was talking to they would expect to have it within 6 months.

Thats all I know. Any of you willing to suggest a good mobile broadband provider?.

Yeah... UPC told me I would have access to their broadband in November. Last year.

I have IBB fixed wireless. 4mb up and down. Very good so far.

Digiweb fixed goes up to 8mb I think - only heard good things.

No idea if its in Sandyford though.

    There are good Mobile Providers

    There are good Broadand Providers

There are Mobile Providers that do Fixed Broadband also.

But there are no good Mobile Broadband providers.

Sky phone rep lied to you, simple as that. I don't imagine ?Sky will enter the Irish market until Comreg force eircom to drop the LLU pricing, which isn't going to happen.

Since you're looking at mobile midband, this belongs in the Midband forum.

Avoid Three, Meteor have crap coverage, O2 and Vodafone are good (depending on location and time of day), but none of them are broadband.

    Avoid clearwire at all costs.

I've seen people say they've got UPC in belarmine, which I understand isn't too far from Sandyford village. It wouldn't be that long before UPC upgrade the entire area. But probably too long for ya.

Eircom and resellers are definitely available in Sandyford. Of course you need a phone line, and then you've to wait up to 4 weeks for it to be tested.

If you just want some form of good enough broadband quickly, IBB and Digiweb would be able to supply you. They put a small aerial on your roof or at the side of your house.

Clearwire and Ripwave appear to be fairly poor, but convenient and cheap to have.

The mobile companies are only useful when you've to get by with some sort of internet access wherever you are. You're unable to do anything with those services well except for web browsing and watching videos/music, and that's when it's not busy on the network in the late afternoon until around midnight. Any mobile thing by perlico is simply a rebranded vodafone service. Which is the best of a bad lot.

My advice if you need internet at home for work, ASAP, is to check out Irish BB and Digiweb Metro. There should be good coverage from their transmitter sites in the Dublin mountains. Then if you've gotta use mobile bb, try Voda first. They tend to have good coverage near their HQ:)

    IBB= Imagine's Breeze, not their Ripwave :)
