Is it possible to progress in to teaching from any degree? Or does it specifically have to be Arts, for example? Thanks

I'd imagine a Science degree would be fine to progress into teaching Science, a business degree would be fine for business, etc.

Depends on the subjects you want to teach.

The Teaching Council has a list of approved degrees. Not all degrees are suitable for teaching.
    See here - .doc file

    Other information here

Ya see i'm not going to study one particular subject, the courses i've applied for have numerous subjects included i.e. Cultural Studies and Creative Digital Media.
I have Arts down and I know you can progress to teaching through it but it's at the bottom of my list because of it's distance! There aren't any Arts degrees that I can apply for now because I've missed the interview dates. :o
So does anyone know if i can go on to teach through Cultural Studies or CDM?

    What university awards that degree?
If it's on the list it's OK, if it's not then you start the fun of trying to get them to recognise it.

If you do the degree in english, media and cultural studies in Dun Laoighaire College of Art and Design you can teach english.

If you do languages and cultural studies in the University of Limerick you can teach some of english, german, french, irish and spanish depending on the options you choose

The document is for second-level teaching. NUI Arts (depending on the subjects taken) should be fine for teaching, or at least for getting registered. You would then have to do the PGDE (the old H. Dip.).

The shortage of jobs is another issue. Some subjects would anecdotally (and locally) be more likely to have jobs offered than others.

Primary teachers have their own training courses, some of which can be entered at post graduate level.

There are no interviews for Arts courses. Are you confusing them with Art which involves a portfolio?

If it's Arts you are looking for you can still change your CAO choices until Wednesday

Oh well that would be because you are a mature student, normally there are no interviews for Arts courses.
